Drafted fifth, traded for Dirk, now he's dead.
Fwiw Kwame Brown is still in the league and still sees playing time, unlike the #1 in 2002.
Also before the Sonics poached Presti from the Spurs they drafted a guy named Robert Swift in the 2004 draft, when they could have taken Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, or even Jameer Nelson.
The guy Oden'd himself out of the league and now plays in Japan.
The NBA isn't even close to being as bad as the NFL for their 1st overall picks, especially QBs.
You call a guy who got named to the All-Rookie team despite being a second-rounder a bust?
Thabeet was taken 2nd overall and he got DLeague'd.
That class produced... 3 All-Stars and ONE All-NBA guy, Michael Redd (who was a stud and was on the 2008 squad until INJURIES)
It's funny because he's somehow the Sonics' starting center in my NBA Live game.![]()
Damn, I forgot he died.
Dang, forgot he was traded for Dirk.
Jay Williams has seemingly become a forgotten bust, tbh..
Oops, I didn't mean that photo was taken last week. I meant jeebus found that gem and posted it last week.

2. Chris Washburn, Warriors
No. 3, First Round -- 1986
Of the dozens of busts in the '86 Draft, most either fell victim to obesity (William Bedford) or drug problems (Roy Tarpley). Somehow, Chris Washburn combined the two in one glorious, spiraling descent out of the lottery and into oblivion. The N.C. State product scored a grand total of 222 points in 72 career games.
