I agree. For me, once Ross was gone, Henson was my choice.

Knowing Sarver he doesn't use all the trade exception, though they are far enough under the CAP they could without worry.

Plus they also get a roughly $9M trade exception from the Nash trade.

Babby and Blanks are redeeming themselves. I'm just still hung up on passing on Henson. He woulda been perfect

This is also a random tangent, but people complaining about the fact Sarver got the Lakers to throw $3.1M into the deal has gotten stupid. They act like all that money goes into Sarver's pocket and as if he just sold Steve Nash. If he got LA to throw $3.1M into the deal for an unrestricted free agent the Suns don't have any control over, that's a good business decision and completely different than selling picks the team owns.

Correct. Now if he starts selling the picks off, then it's same old Sarver...

just realized Goran actually took a paycut to leave Houston and come back to Phoenix

    Rockets
    Morey
maybe he shoulda used some caravans to recruit Goran
    Coming out of my cave...

I'd pay money to play for someone if it meant getting out of Houston.

And a good thing for every other team in the league. Under the old CBA, teams could add up to 3M to every transaction. Now the limit is 3M per season. So that's one tool that the Lakers can't use again this season.

It is true from multiple reports. Where have you heard they aren't? It's the Odom exception and it's why the Suns don't need to take back any contracts.

He's right. This type of trade would normally create an exception, and perhaps technically it still does. The Suns, however, are using cap space to sign players like Dragic and Gordon. In order to use cap space they have to renounce their exceptions, including trade exceptions.

Interesting. As I said, I didn't expect Sarver to use it anyway.

    JMarksJohn is a total jackass.

He just said it was confirmed in "multiple reports".

So show us ONE of these "reports" that said the Suns get a trade exception.

Just like that Sarver quote "We will match" you put in that "article", right?

Who tweeted that the Suns gained an exception?

btw - love how "multiple reports" just morphed into "tweets".

You should read the Nash/Lakers thread, and also realize twitter now breaks more news than any media service. When reporters tweet it's still a report, and many link to articles as well.

The Suns did acquire the exception. That's how the trade could get done under the CBA, but they opted to renounce the exception and use the sum as CAP space.

So they do get an exception in the trade, it's just worthless since they have cap space...

it doesn't need to be a report, it's how the NBA works.

It's a totally worthless exception since the Suns are under the cap so in that sense you're right, but when the Lakers have to use a trade exception for the deal, it means the Suns get it.

It does need a "report". I can find you 200 different articles explaining how the Lakers gained a trade exception when they traded Odom to the Mavs despite the fact "thats how the NBA works".

Wont find that with Nash to Lakers, will ya? When you are under the cap, you renounce all exceptions.

Never believe JMarksJohn. He will literally make up quotes out of thin air.

I understand the fact they're renouncing the exception, but they still got the exception via the trade.

I admit I was (and JMark was too for that matter) wrong about the fact that they have to renounce all exceptions since they're under the cap (didn't know that rule), but the trade still generates an exception.

Somebody didn't love you enough when you were a child. If you go back and review all the initial reports of the trade, most mentioned Nash being acquired with the 8.9 Odom exception plus multiple picks. Forgive us our sins of taking the reports at face value while sporadically following a developing story on a holiday.

It is true. A team cannot sign a player then just trade him to another team that has no cap space without an exception being available to absorb the incoming salary. The Suns don't get to use the exception because they are under the cap, but it was used and it is the reason why they don't have to take any salary back.

Original quote was that the Suns now have an 8.9 million dollar trade exception.

Plus they also get a roughly $9M trade exception from the Nash trade.
Which I pointed out was not true.

That's fine. JMJ had said that the reason why the Suns didn't have to take back salary was because of the exception. You responded and said that wasn't true when in fact it was. Just making sure we are clear on what is true and what is not.

Contracts typically escalate, so they would all be several million less than their per-year average in this first year. Probably closer to 12, 6.5, and 4.5. Technically the Suns can clear more space by amnestying Childress and including salary contracted players in the potential sign/trade for Gordon. If they traded Gortat for Gordon and amnestied Childress, I think they'd have enough for another lower-tiered Max offer.
Yeah, I realized I had forgotten about the amnesty. Why would Suns trade Gortat, though?
