then son what is Tim Duncan's excuse for not stepping up? I mean the age excuse would be lame considering numerous players have stepped up in their mid-30's on teams in the past for the U.S.. Since many like to try and claim that Duncan is the best PF of all time, you would think that he should be out there if physically capable.....

but then again the U.S. team is probably still embarrassed with him for that disgrace he caused the country in 2004 when he led the U.S. team to the bronze to be honest.

lol DPG ignoring the facts and turning his attention to bashing a 19 year old who hasn't even played a single NBA game yet.
Sons the only FACTS are that Davis was the #1 pick, that he told the world he was going to try his hardest to make the team, that Team USA was completely destroyed by injuries to their big men and desperately needed one & his only comp was a guy who's only skill is dunking and he still couldn't make it.

Tell me again what Tim Duncan has to do with all of those facts??? You are deflecting because you just got your city destroyed by a truth bomb son.

Also, Davis might be the new "Glass Man" since he already sprained his ankle WTF son! What kind of healthy athletic 19 year old gets hurt so easily ???? His first taste of an NBA light practice and he goes down harder than Eric Gordon?!

Also who was on that 2004 Olympic team apart from Duncan?

Iverson and Marbury, who are both out of the league? Boozer, who spaghettied in the playoffs? Marion, who wasn't the beast he is now? Young LeBron/Melo/Wade?

Not to mention Manu and the Argentina team were playing out of their minds tbh

Not to get into all of this, but Duncan refused to be apart of the 08 olympics because he hated the 04 stint so much. Always saddled with fouls. Poor officiating.

Again, please explain what Tim has to do with the fact that the number one draft pick can't make the team when his only comp is a guy who only dunks and every other big man is injured.

    Just facts please. k, thx

oh really son was that the reason? you know that I'll be the first to rag on bad officiating, but if that were the excuse for Duncan leading the U.S. team (look at that roster and tell me he wasn't the legit leader) to the bronze in 2004 ... then how come in the three Olympics prior (1992, 1996, 2000) and after (2008) the U.S. had absolutely no problem winning the Gold medal???

as a matter of fact a little history lesson for you ... the last time the U.S. Olympic team the bed and embarrassed the country the way they did in 2004 when led by Tim Duncan was way back in 1988 when they also had another Spur legend David Robinson on the team.

FIBA refs don't protect Tiimmy the way NBA refs do tbh. That's the difference.

    They didn't win in 2002 & 2006 World Championships and 2004 Olympics.

After these 3 losses they came back to play with all their best players, Not only 2 or 3 at best. And they play like a team with respect for the rival. Something they never did in the 2002-2006 years.

"If Tim Duncan knew this was the system and how he was going to be treated in that sense, I think he would have thought seriously about not coming," said U.S. assistant Gregg Popovich, who also coaches Duncan and Ginobili on the Spurs.

A frustrated Duncan, who said that he is 95% sure his FIBA career is over and that "FIBA sucks," was asked if he felt his frustrations would deter other stars from playing in the Olympics. "I hope not," he said, "I'll try not to share my experience with anyone."

In the end, its a personal decision. Tim made his. Respect it.

He valiantly lead Spain to an expected Silver medal. These numbers are eerily similar to his NBA production throughout the years. Why didn't Timmy duplicate his NBA success? Honest question because I've always thought Timmy was protected by NBA refs. With FIBA refs - not so much. Pau is called soft yet his game successfully translated to the FIBA referred games - like other star players' games have. Why is that?

Duncan was always in foul trouble and he was called for all sorts of fouls - offensive, defensive and ticky tack fouls. That's the reason why he didn't like the Olympics experience.

But at the end of the day, he had some pretty awful (selfish) players as his supporting cast and Larry Brown was as usual himself at managing players. He wouldn't dare play the youngsters and his defensive oriented style of coaching was another reason why they didn't win the gold.

Nice but these are nothing but excuses. The "GOAT PF" should dominate International comp and didn't. Timmy was 28 and in his prime. If he were a TOSB I'd grudgingly understand. Here was his stat line:

    12.9 ppg
    9.1 rpg
    38/67 FGAs
    56.7% FGs
    27/36 FTAs
    75% FTs
    1.25 bpg

    LINK

Bottom line, Timmy was not protected by FIBA refs the way he's built a HOF career in the NBA. The stats reflect that fact. His FIBA numbers look nothing like his career NBA #s. I rest my case.

EG is unproven IMHO but he better get his contract now before he's breaks down completely. He's acting like a wimpish-prick but a lot of these overpaid children with limited career windows would try do the same.

WESTWEGO, La. - Hornets shooting guard Eric Gordon will have limited participation in preseason workouts due to soreness in his right knee, the club announced Monday.

Gordon, who played in only 9 of the Hornets 66 games last season, underwent arthroscopic surgery last season on his right knee and didn't return to full strength until the end of the season.
“The team is taking a cautious approach with Eric to give him the best chance to be ready for the season," General Manager Dell Demps said.

Gordon averaged just over 20 points per game in his limited work.

Gordon was a restricted free agent during the offseason and signed an offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns, famously commenting that his heart was in Phoenix.

The Hornets matched the offer of four years and $58 million.
