Here are some great links that recap the best prospects from the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge that was held in DeSoto this past weekend. They say it was probably the best collection of underclassmen talent in one place that the recruiting industry has ever seen. Top performers on offense and defense are both Texans.

Latest with OL Caleb Benenoch from 24/7. He has a visit to Stanford scheduled for July 22nd and 23rd. They could be a big threat to Texas if they offer because of the family's emphasis on academics.

“About 60 percent of the reason (for waiting to commit is my parents),” Benenoch said. “They're a huge part.”

“If they have my major, if they have good academic standing and how successful are they at getting guys to the league,” Benenoch said.

“I think the tip of the hand would be how I feel when I go up there,” Benenoch said. “When it comes to those last couple of days there's always that school that you'll keep thinking about. That's what it's going to come down to at the end of the day is how you feel. My parents may love it but I still have to feel it in my gut that it's the right place. I'm waiting for that feeling.”

“Yeah, you can say that (Texas is the favorite),” Benenoch said.

Update on DE Dajuan Drennon from 24/7. He hasn't had any direct communication with the Texas staff yet, so he says he's unsure if he'd be willing to use one of his five official visits on UT this fall.

“I liked it a lot,” Drennon said. “The city of Austin was beautiful, the weather down here was nice and everything here was nice.”

“There were no cons,” Drennon said. “She (Drennon's mother) said everything was nice and she said everything was great. If I did wind up committing there, my mom said she'd have no problem with me going there because of the academic support. That's big for her. From their point of view, Texas gets an 'A', easy.”

“He (Darrell Wyatt) seemed like a good guy from what they told me,” Drennon said. “He was real nice and showed them everything they wanted to see.”

More from JUCO DE Randy Gregory of Arizona Western JC (24/7):

“Right now I consider myself solid to Purdue,” said Gregory. “I’m a solid verbal. I originally committed to them out of high school, but I ended up going the JUCO route. I told myself, though, that I was going to take my time then transfer to Purdue. So I committed to them a few months ago.”

“Ever since this spring we’ve had about 35 schools come around to see me and some other guys,” Gregory explained. “My coach told me they were all impressed with me and liked what they saw. After that, I’ve kind of wanted to see who was really serious about offering me. I still feel like Purdue is the right school for me now, but if someone were to prove that otherwise, then so be it.”

“Texas would definitely be a game-changer for me,” Gregory told Hookem.com. “Just having them call me and letting me know that they were impressed with my film after looking at it makes me think a lot about them. They are a great program, so they are someone I am seriously considering, especially if they offered.”

“Arkansas offered me last week. I also have offers from Illinois, Louisville, Kansas, Indiana, Iowa State, Oregon State, Utah and obviously Purdue,” he said. “I feel like one reason I haven’t received a ton of offers is because of my commitment status with Purdue. My coach said if I decommitted, I’d have a ton of schools offering me and I believe that due to so many stopping by and showing interest.”

“I won’t be making a decision right now,” Gregory said. “I think the latest it will be is mid-season. I really want to get all my official visits in, because during high school I only took one and I regret that. I really want to be able to see all of my top schools and check them out. So after that happens, I’ll make my decision by the mid-season.”

More encouraging quotes from WR Devon Allen (24/7):

“I think it’s good they’re going after some of these Arizona guys,” he said. “I met Connor Brewer a couple of years ago. They did some workouts and asked for an extra receiver, so I went out there and caught some passes. As for Cole Luke, I’ve talked to him a couple of times. We went to the junior days at Arizona State together, so that’s where we met. They’re not my friends or anything like that, but I have met them. Both seem like good guys and, if somehow we all ended up at Texas, it would be cool to play with them.”

“My dad loves the big school atmosphere and loves the city of Austin,” said Allen. “He said he likes Texas, actually. He also feels like the track program at Texas would be really good for me too, on top of the football program obviously. He really likes the academics that Texas has to offer too.”

“He likes them now, but a few years ago he would probably be cussing at them since they beat Ohio State! Of course that’s just fans being fans though. In all seriousness, he has a good mindset with Texas. He does like them and says he wouldn’t mind coming to Austin every weekend to see me play,” Allen said.

“A couple of days ago I narrowed it down to fifteen schools I like,” he told Hookem.com. “I know that’s a lot, but it’s still early and I’m really interested in what those schools have to offer. I want to see more and learn more about them before narrowing it down further. My top fifteen are, in no specific order, Arizona State, Oregon, Texas, Arkansas, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, California, Washington, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, LSU, USC, Stanford and UCLA.”

“First up we’re going to see Stanford and then California on the weekend of July 23rd,” Allen explained. “After that, the following weekend, we’re going to Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame. I’m looking forward to seeing what they all have to offer. It should be a lot of fun.”

Two quick quotes from 2014 DE/LB Hoza Scott (24/7):

“When I visited (Texas in June) all of the coaches took time out from what they were doing to come up to me and shake my hand,” Scott said. “That really meant a lot to me. They really made me feel at home.”

“I've been to A&M quite a few times, and it feels like home every time I go there,” Scott said. “It just feels more like home because I've been there so much. That's why I give them a slight lead.”

Quotes from 2014 LB Cameron Hampton (24/7):

“Texas is in my top two,” Hampton told Hookem.com. “LSU is the other one. Neither school is ahead of the other though. That’s in no type of order. Both are even and are my two favorites right now.”

“They actually didn’t tell me when I was down there,” he explained. “They called my coach the following day and talked about me with him. They said they really liked what I could do and thought I was a good kid. After that, they told coach that I have been approved for an offer. So hopefully when they do extend the offers, I’ll be getting one. Coach (Bruce) Chambers was already talking about being in line for one, but I was surprised when they actually said it.”

“Texas is my home state,” Hampton said. “That’s a chance to represent your home state and do big things. They have a great school and a great football program. It’s made me very happy to know that they think that much of me. It’s been a really big deal for me.”

"They told me to come down anytime I want to for a game,” said Hampton. “I plan to be there a lot. I’m ready to see them play.”

Update on CB Antwuan Davis after his trip to Atlanta for the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge:

"My first day, the 1-on-1s weren't all that great. I couldn't get as many reps as I wanted. The first day was kind of shaky, I don't know why. That night, I sat in my hotel room and thought about what I had to do next day," Davis said. "I had to come out in 7-on-7, perform a lot better. I was pleased with my performance on Sunday but not so much on Saturday."

"I think I showed them that playing against the best, you have your good days and your bad days but you have to be able to shake off your bad days, go back with the right mentality. I've never had to prove that before. Most of my performances are pretty good," Davis said. "I slipped up a little on that first day, but you have to act like it never happened and I had to get that corrected. I felt like I brought that."

"I was doing a lot of disguising coverages and stuff. My coach is looking for me to do that in the season, so I worked on that tremendously. It worked like a charm. Every time I came up (to press), they'd switch to a deep pass and then I'd back off right before they snapped it. It would get them every time."

"I spoke with him (Duane Akina) about three days after the camp. He asked how I was doing. He said somehow, some way, his assistant pulled up my 1-on-1s in Atlanta. I was like, 'Oh gosh, you should have pulled up anything but those,'" Davis said. "But he said all those plays were great plays. He said 'What you need help on, what I can fix, is technique.' He told me about one of the plays, if I'd taken one less step and then broke on the ball, it would have been an easy pick. He said with most plays, it was simple things, like getting my hands on the receiver and him not going anywhere."

"It was fun. I really enjoyed it. Not many people get to go to that. It was neat meeting new people," Davis said. "Most of them, I felt like I already knew, but I was just getting to know them."

"I really enjoy the coaches at Texas. Coach Akina, we had always kept in contact. There weren't many times had I not called him. I usually call him about two times a week. We Talk about everything - school, track, things like that."

"I'm glad that I made that choice. It's just a relief. For the longest time I had to hang around, call all these coaches. It had gotten so crazy, I had gotten an Expo marker, and on my mirror every night, I had a daily calendar of coaches I had to call every day. I knew Arkansas was Thursday at 9:30. I called LSU every other Monday or something like that. I was trying to keep in contact as much as possible. With coach Akina, his wasn't even on there. I'd just call him whenever. I just knew."

That 2011 RB class in the state of Texas was unbelievable but they all seem to be failing at their respective schools: Herschel Sims, Aaron Green, and Brandon Williams.

We got couple good ones in Malcolm Brown and the very underrated (back in the day anyway) Bergeron.

One of the many reasons recruiting is so much fun because things can do a complete 180 in a matter of months. Sims obviously has some things to work out because he's now a felon after commiting fraud with Tshimanga's bank account, but Williams and Green should still have a great opportunity to make an impact at A&M and TCU respectively.

This is pretty crazy. DT Robert Nkemdiche is basically costing Clemson four additional scholarships if they want his signature. They already have commitments from three of his high school teammates, but he wants one more guy offered or he's threatening to look at other schools:

Update on RB Kyle Hicks and his foot injury (OrangeBloods):

"So far, I've been on crutches and just staying off my foot. I go to the doctor (on Monday) tomorrow to see how much longer until I can start my rehab. There's a slight chance I'll be able to start walking on it again tomorrow (July 3rd)," Hicks said.

"I'm so ready. I think about getting back (to full strength) every day. I just can't wait," Hicks said. "I'm ready to get back to working out, going out and running. I miss running, actually. You never know how much you miss running until you can't do it."

"The type of person I am, it can't keep me down. Even though I do have the screws, I still go to the morning workouts, lift weights. I want to show my team I'm still committed, that I'll still do it all with them. I'm sure my legs have probably gotten weaker, but I've been doing upper body stuff. Any workout I can pressure off my foot, that's what I do."

"The (Texas) camp was really fun. I'm glad I ended up going," Hicks said. "It gave me a chance to bond with my future teammates, talk to coaches and see them again. It was nice going there."

"I talked to coach (Bruce) Chambers, coach (Major) Applewhite, coach (Mack) Brown. They all came up to me and were asking me how my foot was doing, told me to get well soon. Coach Applewhite just said to do whatever you have to do to be healthy by the start of the season."

"I'm still happy with the decision I made. I made my decision because I know where I wanted to go," Hicks said. "I'm still happy with my choice."

Quotes from 2014 S Jamal Adams of Carrollton Hebron (24/7). He's another offer in February:

“I really like Texas,” Adams told Hookem.com over the weekend. “I also like TCU and Alabama, but I like them (other schools) all too. We’ll see how it all goes, but Texas is standing above all right now. They’re my unofficial, official number one. They’re sitting good with me and I think I am with them too.”

“The Texas camp really opened my eyes,” said Adams. “It was really great down there in Austin. I went down there to impress the coaches and I think I did just that. They also impressed me a lot. It was a really good visit.”

"Coach Akina is just a great coach,” Adams told Hookem.com. “In fact, he’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever met. He might be the best defensive backs coach there is. He shows so much love to you and just takes the time out to show you how he wants it done, which is the right way, always. Coach Akina is just a real cool guy. He expects everything to be done right though and that’s how I like it.”

“The coaches really liked me and they feel like I’m a really good lockdown corner,” he explained. “They also know I can play safety just as good too. Personally, I have no preference. I’ll play corner and love it, but I’ll play safety and love it. I just like to play. With being a safety, I get to come down, hit and just knock some people around. With corner, I can lock my man down real well, but at the same time I can hit hard too. It doesn’t matter to me as long as I’m on the field doing my thing.”

“Texas has the best athletic facilities I’ve ever seen,” Adams said. “When we were down there and they were touring us around, I was blown away. It was real nice. I’m saying like everything, every part of that campus that I saw is real nice. The bubble practice facility, the weight rooms, locker rooms, field house, stadium, it’s all top of the line. I had a blast not only being there, but getting to see it all as well. That made Texas look really, really good too.”

“Well, now we wait and then they get back to me on junior day next February. They’ve talked to me about offering and all that, but I have to wait like everyone else, which is cool. I’m sure I will come down for a game or two this fall, but I don’t know yet,” Adams said.

“I want to wait and see what all happens,” explained Adams. “Right now I just want to enjoy the recruiting process. I don’t want to rush in to an offer before my junior season begins like some people do. I’ll just kick back and wait to see what happens. It’s a real blessing to even get this experience, so I might as well enjoy right now.”

Update on 2014 OL Kealvin Davis of Garland Lakeview Centennial (24/7):

“It’s definitely Texas,” Davis told Hookem.com when asked of his favorite schools. “They’re the school for me. They’re my favorite and my number one. I’ve grown up a fan of Texas and I’ll always be a fan of Texas.”

“I’ve grown up a big Texas fan,” Davis explained. “A very big fan. I’ve liked them forever it seems like. They’re my dream school and I would obviously love to play for them. It would be a dream come true for me. Not many people get a chance to play for their favorite team, so to get that honor would be a blessing for me.”

“I just had a blast down there,” said Davis. “It was a lot of fun and I had a great time. I enjoyed getting to see everything, meeting the coaches and just taking it all in. It was a real good time. There was no doubt to begin with, but that trip definitely made me like Texas even more.”

"A big part of going down to Austin for me was meeting the coaches,” Davis said. “I got to meet Coach (Stacy) Searels, Coach (Darrell) Wyatt, Coach (Mack) Brown and some of the other ones. They were all very nice guys and I enjoyed talking to them. They gave me a lot of pointers to help improve my game. They gave me a lot of good information really.”

"The thing about Coach Searels is I just really hit it off with him,” he said. “I like his coaching and the way he goes about things. He’s on my level with everything. He really breaks it down for you and helps you understand the game even better. I really mesh with his style of doing everything. I can definitely see myself playing for him for sure. He’s the type of coach that you want to play for.”

“They told me they definitely were going to watch me and keep me in mind,” said Davis. “They liked what I could do and what I brought to the table. The coaches told me I definitely have a really good chance of being a Texas Longhorn when it’s over.”

I read somewhere, maybe here, that Florida will only take one more safety and there is some other guy who Florida is looking at very closely and might commit before Marcell Harris.

What do you know about this?!?! Or am I just making this up? Im not sure.
