SAN ANTONIO - "The Rattler" is going to a theme park in the sky.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas has decided to retire the wooden roller coaster. The ride has been in service since the park opened in 1992, but like all good things, it must come to an end. The summer of 2012 will be its last and a farewell ride is already on the calendar.

Riders can experience the drops for the last time on August 5th.

My understanding is that they are redoing it with steel track like they did the Texas Giant in Arlington.

Yeah, it was awesome the first 2-3 months or so before they tamed it. I couldn't believe how pussy the ride got after that.

Seems like every year since I've lived in SA there's rumors about liabilities and insurance costs causing the end to the Rattler. I've only been on it once. But next month I'll be showing my kids some REAL roller coasters at Cedar Point

Definitely the best park I have ever been to. Only Magic Mountain is even in the same ballpark.

lol its just getting rebuilt with iron horse track, removal of the triple helix, new ending, original first drop glory and more speed, with an enhanced 2nd drop/fan curve, itll be better and run smooth.

new name will more than likely be "Rattler Reborn" and be up and reasy for 2013 summer
