I don't need this place. It is not my only source of intelligent discourse. I start threads every now and then, but it's not why I'm here. If there's something I desperately want/need to discuss, I've got plenty of other people in my life with whom I can do that. If it doesn't happen here, in other words, it does not mean I have to do without.
That being the case, I check the boards a couple of times each day, usually while doing homework or something else that brings me to the computer, and I jump in when/where I have something to say. Funny, intelligent, insulting, or otherwise. If there's nothing that inspires my response, I move on. That has always been my habit here and at the couple other message boards I've ever checked in on. I've never been one to start posting out of boredom or to start threads just because I'm so damned infatuated with the (message board equivalent of the) sound of my own voice. I don't talk for the sake of talking in the outside world, either.
Bottom line, however, is that I'm here. And when there's intelligent and/or insightful posts/threads/ideas for me to respond to, I do so in kind. Avante (or you, or anyone else) can't blame his own refusal to raise the bar on assumptions he's made about who posts here or what we are capable of/interested in. Personally, I'm not buying the story that he came here initially to carry on intelligent conversation but got fed up and turned to trolling, nor do I think anyone else is. It seems far more likely that excuse is him scrambling to make up for either the fact he's been trolling the whole time and didn't like being called on it or that what he's posted so far is simply the best he's got.
BUT...
IF someone genuinely wanted to engage in intelligent conversation, it would make the most sense to start threads that encouraged it and let those who wanted to participate join in. If no one does, look for it elsewhere. But to jump into the trolling and insults with both feet and then complain about how there's nothing but trolling and insults around here is disingenuous bull and should be called out as such.

A lot of words here and very little meaning but that pretty much describes you perfectly.
I don't see it as complaining as much as you allege here. I see it as what it is, which is giving you and everyone else here what they asked for.
If you wanted polite discourse that is what you would have gotten. If you or anyone else here wanted to learn something and in return taught something- I would have been more than happy to teach things I may know and learn things from others that I don't know.
Neither of those things were possible here because of many reasons and to list them here will only illicit scoff and the same tired juvenile trolling that has always been the norm here.
What you did ask for I gave back and that was the rude and obnoxious garbage that was hurled at me and others and I obliged. It doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things.
I told you before I am flexible. I can go toe to toe with anyone at the highest level and at the lowest level and still keep my toes tapping.

I 'd like to talk about the Penn State situation but the punk kids here won't allow it.
However it is entertaining and does put a grin on my face, I do tire of talking with adults who are too serious about things, talking about 400m endurance being the key to the 200m not sprint speed does give me a headache sometimes. Here you can get by using a very small fraction of your brain, cool, relaxing.

I don't know about any of you, but I never go anywhere in my life and have a problem or a disagreement with anyone and I work with some pretty outstanding people whom I have the highest respect for. They are one of the best things that has happened in my life and I cherish and respect them. I also work amongst thieves, murderers, rapists and generally some of the worst of the worst- and I hardly ever have any problems with them. So if you people cannot act as decent as the lowest of society-what does that say about you?

One one hand:
You insult and gang up on anyone at anytime unprovoked and all bets are off.
On the other hand:
