Now I know that perhaps Spurstalk isn't exactly a dwelling
ground for writers, whether it be novelists, song-writers, poets
or aspiring journalists.
But I'm almost certain there are some writers here, & I even have half
a mind to say there are some exceptional writers here.
Now, I've always been a song-writer, I've been playing guitar & bass for
13 years (I'm currently 21). I pride myself on my vocabulary, I'd say that perhaps my punctuation isn't top notch, but hey, neither was Jack Kerouac's.
Not a day goes by that I don't learn new words, or phrases.
Anyways. Recently, I've become very driven to write a screen-play, or maybe just a novel, but I've found it quite difficult to come up with a premise..
Obviously, I'd want it to be something profound, something deep, but also a premise that is perfect for building upon, characters & events.
I've come up with one, but it's very raw. I'd like to share it, and see
what you think, but first, I want to hear what other writers on this forum
have come up with. Don't worry, this isn't so I can steal your ideas.. It is to just create a forum with a creative writing environment, talk about it, share ideas and give feedback.

15 original songs (I don't sing) I wrote and played most of the instruments.
Guitar is my main thing.
Wrote words and music.

I've written some poetry, had one of my poems read to the class (local JC) in my creative writing class, then read again to the class in another class that needed a poem. Mine the only poem read. It was.."Gunfighter"
The trick is to read read and read, absorb all you can. It's those influenses that soak in, be a sponge.

Your guitar playing, tone, recording, are excellent. Your guitar playing is way ahead of your singing---for now--NO SHAME THERE.
If you are 21 there is a lot of places your voice can go--if there is one regret I have in my progression---it is that I never had confidence in my voice and so I never developed it. You are young enough where you can still develop both and your playing is already really good.
The song is a little rough and the melody could be better but there is a lot of potential there. Songwriting is a learned art.
When I was 21 I was in my Rhandy Rhoads/Van Halen/SRV phase and I wanted to play a million notes a second. I used to take my guitar everywhere and practice 16 hours a day.

& actually, I recorded this song when I was 18..
I'd say my guitar playing has improved a tad,
but unfortunately, my vocals remain shaky.
but hey, it still works for me, in fact, the scene
where my band plays, has learned to love my vocals.
Bless their hearts, lol.
But you're correct, I plan to improve the vocals,
& if I'm at my ceiling in that area, I will just leave the vocals
to someone else.

I was writting everyday for a few years, then I hit a wall. It started getting harder to unleash the juices. I guess I used up the creativity. Now it hits me every now and then.
