I hate to be "that" guy, but just to massively oversimplify things Andrew Bynum's PER was 23.00 last year compared to 24.29 for Howard so to scoff like they're just worlds apart is just dumb. Not to mention, Howard is peaked and Bynum has more upside. I imagine Bynum will look nasty not playing next to chucker.

I understand that Bynum is a good player, but Dwight is just a ing freak. Hes defense is miles better. A Dirk/Dwight combo would be lethal, like a Dirk/Chandler one on steroids. Bynum is better at getting the ball and creating in the post, but Dwight is much better at finishing right off the pass. And with Dirk getting the attention he draws, Dwight would go nuts.

I agree that a Dirk/Dwight combo would be lethal, I'm not acting like I'd scoff at dwight howard being a maverick. It would be especially good because he's like Tyson Chandler on steroids. And like Chandler, he lacks the footwork and post moves of an Andrew Bynum.

I'd be thrilled to have either one, but if I'm a gm, barring injuries, I take Bynum. It is a bit of a risk though with the knees, sure.

I guess where we differ is I think Dirk is no longer able to carry a team on his back like he did in 11. You obviously think otherwise, and that's why you'd rather have the guy who probably slightly better compliments Dirk. But i'm taking the guy who will be the better cornerstone in 2 years whenever Dirk retires.

Dallas has done well with iso-dribble scorers/shooters, so this makes a ton of sense, because I think Mayo can get his to improve his standing/worth while helping a team like Dallas within their individualized system.

I think Mayo on a effectively one-year deal scared the Suns as they thought he'd take over and undercut coaching/system to get his to get his the next offseason. Not sure how grounded that idea is, though OJ isn't known as being a team-first guy.

When is the last time Dallas had this many playmakers? Gonna be a fun season for sure. Just hopin Kaman can stay healthy, the ceiling for this team is pretty high IMO

You are both ing re ed.

M>S, are you saying that if given the chance to trade for Dwight you would pass in order to maybe lure Bynum in the offseason. Bc it sounds like thats what you're saying and its the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Even if you think Bynum is the better player (hes not) you at least would do the trade considering its unlikely we could lure Bynum.

And even though Bynum does have more skill in the post, Dwight is still the better player by far.
When Dwight hits 30 he's going to fall off a cliff Tmac style since his game is entirely based off his athleticism.

Bynum, if he ever matures, is a guy who could have Duncanesque longevity, since he can score in the post without having to be the better athlete.

Short term Dwight may be better and safer, while long term Bynum is riskier but will be playing at a high level much longer than Dwight.

I don't get this. The Suns wanted Mayo and were willing to pay him 5-6 million/year, but supposedly didn't offer him a contract because he wanted 8 million. And then he signs with Dallas for 4 million? Something doesn't add up here.

Mayo saw that Dallas had done more to make a compe ive team. Dirk/Kaman/Collison > Scola/Gortat/Dragic.

and they managed to get their backcourt younger. Nice.

Player option for next year. Mavs probably sold him on the "have a great year, then opt out and get a huge deal next year" angle.

Bynum will be lucky to still be in the league at 30 after his knee issues. He just completed a full season which is encouraging, but the list of guys who have had his injury history at his age and proceeded to age well is very short...as in almost non-existent.

Well that's because most teams spend years trying to put together a team with higher aspirations than the 7th or 8th seed and losing in the first round tbh....

Neither is yours. Difference of course is we have an owner that is committed to winning. The only thing your owner is committed to is not complying with the Fair Housing Act.

Not about skills in the post - about ability to run up and down the court for 20-30 minutes without something falling off.

Most of Bynum's injuries were freak accidents in the playing court. So while he has a lot of injury history, the probability of him being able to run for 20-30 minutes on the court is very high.

If that's the case then it's even more dumb on the Suns' part. A 2 year, $10-12mil deal with the 2nd year being a player option is still a great pricetag for Mayo. 2 years, $8,000,000 is maybe the best bargain so far this off season.

I guess Mayo might have simply liked Dallas more than Phoenix so he was willing to sign with Dallas for less, but that doesn't align with how Phoenix has basically gotten every free agent they've gone after this off season prior to Mayo (Gordon being the exception who obviously woulda come here if he was unrestricted).
