This is slightly disingenuous considering they used the subsidized phone price, but shocking nonetheless. It will only get worse too since no one will buy a WP7 phone until WP8 comes out so that they can confirm compatibility.
"According to market-share estimations compared to marketing dollars, it costs nearly ten times as much to sell the Windows Phone-based Nokia Lumia as it does to buy one. Other analysts agree with the low sales numbers."

The recent Lumias will be getting 7.5 and not 8 I believe. Other manufacturers, who knows.
Windows specifically said that all phones in existance at the moment would not be getting WP8 due to hardware limitations. Some of the better phones would be getting WP7.8 (they already have 7.5)
Yeah, it is pretty ty of them. I would be really pissed if I got one of the nice new ones and couldn't get wp8. some buddies of mine are in that boat.
nothing new. MS has done this with a lot of products, for example the XBox
also other big game players have done this, Amazon, Google, etc
this strategy is nothing new and nothing shocking and sometimes been proven to pay off
and the WP8 crap is similar to the Andoid OS bs that goes on or even the Apple bs regarding their legacy devices
I think that this is categorically different than Google or Apple. Google supported the Nexus one until two years after its release. The nexus S is still being supported with official jellybean (a year and a half after its release).
I believe that Apple does about the same thing (2ish year support cycles).
Nokia released a phone what, 3 months ago (THE flagship phone for the entire OS)? and it in 4 or so months it won't be officially supported?
this makes me sad, first I was hoping Symbian would make a comeback, then I finally moved that hope to windows phone...![]()
That's probably why the phone cost $49 instead of $200.
Symbian. that is long gone my friend.
LOL marketing smack from apple fanboys
