Rockets summer league team is going off.

Don't care for the Lin signing, but shouldn't hurt them too much.

Still Royce White could run the team better as a point forward.
Great audition for the Magic tonight.

I agree, which is why I won't be mad if we don't get Dwight.

    Why Houston why?

Still, they don't have a PG and Lin will sell tickets, etc and make plays. He doesn't seem to be good fits with Martin or Lamb who rely on screens and ball movement.

Are any Rockets fans actually excited about getting Lin at that bloated salary? Seriously.

I would be very upset if the Spurs or Bulls signed him for that much.

I would have preferred we not do this deal and think he's overpaid, but part of me can't help but feel a little excited to see what he can do. It's not like just anybody could have put together that stretch that he did, he's not worthless. Then again, I might just still be in shock that Lowry and Dragic, our 2 best players are gone.

    Thanks for replying.

Personally I feel he's almost doublely overpaid, and is only getting so much because of the hype he got last year.

And yeah. . .the main reason I wondered what Rockets fans felt was because imo, bother PGs the Rockets JUST had were better. . .and I think they could've gotten either for the same price. Maybe slightly more for Lowry, but imo he would be worth it. He was underrated imo. I've seen him kill multiple teams late in games last year with clutch playmaking and scoring.

As for Lin, I don't think he's worthless, but if you statistically break down his good stretch run, he was playing almost solely against lottery teams. I don't have the Lin breakdown on hand (posted it on another site last year), but I remember most of it since I talked about it a lot last year. Roughly it broke down to this:

Linsanity was about 11 games long. All but like three or four of the teams the Knicks played were not only sub .500, but all but one (besides the 3-4) was sub .400 (which imo is the definition of a garbage lottery team). Of the three teams they played they were actually over .500, one was the Mavs, which was an impressive showing by Lin and an impressive one, one was againsta struggling Lakers who weren't clicking yet and were only 3 games over .500 at the time, and one was against a massively injured Hawks team, who did not play either Johnson or Horford in the game.

So technically, during "Linsanity", they played one good team (Mavs), a struggling Lakers (3 games over .500 at the time), a severely injured Hawks teams, the Wolves once (.464), and just about everyone else was under or well under .400. For completion's sake, and I just looked this up to make sure I didn't post incorrect stats, he other teams they played were: Nets (8-17, .320%), Raptors (9-21, .300%), Jazz (13-10, .565%), Wizards (5-21, .192%), lakers (15-12, .555%), Kings (10-19, .335%), Hornets (7-23, .233%), Mavs (20-12 .625%), Nets again (10-24, .294%), and the recently injured Hawks team that was missing Johnson and Horford (19-14, .575%).

So, excluding the Lakers who were struggling, the crippled Hawks, and their one good win against the Mavs, and we'll call their Jazz win a "decent win against an on par team", their opponents' combined record and win% during "Linsanity" was: 49-125, or a craptastic .281%. Include the Jazz's record to inflate it some, and it's 62-135. A still craptastic .314%. Include the Lakers to inflate it, it's a still craptastic .343%. I'm giving them the Mavs win and calling it legit, I don't think beating a severely shorthanded Hawks team should reward them with praise by including the Hawks' win% (my opinion).

But long story short, they played terrible opposition during Linsanity. Mostly lottery teams, injured teams, a couple struggling teams around .500, and one good team (Mavs)

While everyone was verbally blowing Lin, I said let's not crown him as the prince of basketball just yet. . .wait 'til they play the Heat and all those teams after, because they have tough opponents coming up.

Against the Heat, Lin broke a record for garbage play, with imo one of the worst statistical games in NBA history, being the only player every to shoot under 10% while taking more than 10 shots, and turn the ball over 8 times while getting less than half as many assists.

Literally no other player in the history of the NBA has done that. You can look it up on basketball reference. For as far back as that dates game tracker, it hasn't happened.

He then proceeds to play terrible games against every team the Knicks faced. . .except the lottery teams like the Cavs.

So I do think his stretch was actually a fluke, if you break down the stats and opposition. You could go further and break down the team defense, and perimeter defense of said teams (for example, he was defended by the old, broken down Jason Kidd against the Mavs, or the Lakers with the old, slow Fisher). He almost never played well against good teams. Especially after Linsanity. He had the one impressive game against the Mavs, and otherwise either lost or stunk against good teams. Yet shined against lottery squads who we all know will throw games to get better draft position.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but yeah. If I was a Rockets fan, I would be personally angry with the boatload of money they've giving him. Getting Lin. . .sure okay. . .but for that much? And at the cost of Dragic and Lowry? Wtf? Dragic and Lowry were dope. I don't get it. They amnestied Luis Scola too to open up a chance to rent Dwight? Somebody explain to me how these moves make sense please.

This is more or less how I feel, but I'm not looking at the uncertainty with pessimism. In my mind, just as much as he hasn't proven he's worth the contract, Lin hasn't proven he isn't worth the contract, and it's only a 3 year deal so if he busts, there's only a couple more years left with the last one being a valuable expiring. Renting Dwight is a calculated risk worth taking when your team really isn't that good, especially when it looks like his options will be limited next year.
