the only reasonable argument is it hurts current players that had no knowledge of the incident.

that logic, although sound, is a slippery slope. using that same logic, the NCAA should never penalize any team because the actions always come from a few yet the penalty always hurts a much larger group. so do we just go laissez-faire?

in this case you let the players transfer without penalty regardless if you give death penalty, sanctions, or no punishment whatsoever. I think that we would all agree on.
It hurts the entire athletic department directly. It hurts the community and businesses indirectly. It hurts the rest of the conference that sells tickets when Penn St comes to town.

If there was some kind of on field advantage that Penn St gained from this, then maybe they deserve some type of punishment handed down from the NCAA.

But this is something that had nothing to do with football itself other than it being a football coach. Let the justice system handle this entire issue in criminal and civil courts, imo.

The B1G is self righteous enough I could see them kicking Penn State out of the conference for this. It would be real tough and have lots of legal issues but the fact is Penn State is a real black eye for lots of ins utions with this.

You know this is going to affect even the alumni.

Anyone that carries a Penn State diploma is going to be associated with this.

I hope the program sends that video with abefore and after picture of Fozzy to every high school between San Diego and Shreveport.

should a father that commits a felony not be incarcerated because his innocent child would also be a victim of the punishment? your argument would eliminate having laws and rules b/c this applies to almost any person in prison. they have family/friends/etc that suffer. if curley gets jail time should we release him because his innocent family will be victims.

on field advantage not gained? they covered up children being raped. yes hiding child sodomy gave them an advantage because had they come clean it would have been devastating to the program.

this 100% had to do with football. protecting the image of the football program was deemed more important than protecting dozens of kids that were raped. the whole point of the freeh report was those at penn state at all levels wanted to protect the image of the football program at all costs. i'd suggest reading the freeh report or a summary of it b/c that is the highlighted central point.

    Interesting stuff on Wylie,

Ketch posted his 10 thoughts on the free board of OB

He hinted that several olinemen have really turned the corner under Wylie. Looking forward to seeing our oline and where they are at.

    http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1385620

"… If you believe in Bennie Wylie and Stacy Searels, then you should be counting down the days to see what this offensive line looks like in the fall. Not enough is being made of the fact that youngsters like Josh Cochran, Dom Espinosa and Sedrick Flowers should be light years ahead of where they were last season on the field."

you were the one that said you don't see one negative to giving them the death penalty. I was simply pointing them out.

That said, when a felony is committed, you have to punish the felon to keep him from committing the felony again.

When a school commits recruiting violations, you have to punish the school to keep them from committing future violations.

What exactly does a football punishment have to do with rape?

on field advantage not gained? they covered up children being raped. yes hiding child sodomy gave them an advantage because had they come clean it would have been devastating to the program.
    You're speculating.

and your speculation doesn't hold much water considering they are currently ranked #15 by rivals.

    THE U
    The Art of the Decommit
By Bryan Curtis on July 19, 2012 12:45 PM ET

Erich Schlegel/Getty ImagesSorry, you’ll have to give me a second here. We Texas Longhorns fans suffered a loss the other day. Not a death or anything. We had a decommit.

Ricky Seals-Jones, a wide receiver from Sealy, Texas, was being recruited by the Longhorns. In February, he said he wanted to be one of us — that is, he committed. In June, he changed his mind. A decommit is a stranger ritual than Mark Appel refusing to sign with the Pirates, or Jeremy Lin taking the offer sheet from Houston. A decommit isn’t about money. It’s not about a salary-cap gimmick. It’s a public unfriending.

Through reading message boards — which is what I’m doing when the Grantland editors can’t find me — I think I’ve discovered the four types of decommits:

The Better-Offer Decommit: The most common by far. A recruit pledges to a so-so program — in academic terms, his safety school. When a bigger fish comes along, the recruit trades up. Remember the name Tavares Garner; we’ll return to him in a second.

The “I Moved” Decommit: A personal favorite, seen lately with linebacker Reuben Foster. When he lived in Georgia, Foster was an Alabama commit. When he moved to attend Auburn High, he switched to — well, guess. The time-honored cliché “I want to stay close to home” may still hold, but it means something totally different.

The Morals-Clause Decommit: Alex Anzalone of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, was an Ohio State commit. Then he met a registered sex offender who was lurking around the team during his recruiting visit. He told the Buckeyes to get lost. Penn State had a few of these, too.

Finally, there’s Ricky Seals-Jones. That was an “I’m Not Sure” Decommit. “He decommitted so he can go visit some other schools; that’s it,” his father told ESPN. Even though Seals-Jones still lists Texas as his leader, Longhorns fans have had some trouble coping. Seals-Jones said he got death threats on Twitter and that “a couple cars in my neighborhood we didn’t know would drive by [the] house real slow.”

I want Seals-Jones to play for Texas. He’s 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, and he could be as physically imposing as a wide receiver as Michael Dyer was as a running back. But here’s why I don’t hold his decommit against him. We fans tend to see recruiting as a mano-a-mano game between coaches and recruits. Coach makes an offer to recruit; recruit weighs his options; recruit performs a strange ceremony with hats; and so forth.

Actually, it’s coaches who have most of the power in recruiting. Recruits are signing a contract that, in most cases, only offers them a one-year, unpaid job. Once they get into school, their transfer options are restricted. The decommit is one of the few weapons a player has at hand.

On message boards, a poster may admit that a recruit can decommit, but it’s framed as dishonorable. (He never mentions this if the decommitter is in the process of committing to his school.) For this to make any sense, you have to think of recruiting as an honorable process. I’ve never understood how someone on a message board can charge every coach in the country with paying players under the table, or charge players with hiring street agents — and then grade like Miss Manners when it comes to etiquette. Recruiting is inherently ridiculous, and the decommit might be one of its few rational acts.

Tavares Garner, whom you’ll remember from the Better-Offer Decommit, said the other day, “I’m looking forward to decommitting.” I’m happy for Tavares. Really. Then again, he decommitted from Texas Tech.

    Thought this was funny

That's a good read. Hall definitely falls under the "I Moved" category even though it's legit and he wants to be at home in Washington. Really wanted UT to get that kid.

Per 24/7, WR Derrick Griffin transferred to Fort Bend Travis this week. This is the same school that the five-star Harrison twins attend and those three guys already play on the same AAU basketball team. No word yet if the UIL will shoot this down eventually.

OrangeBloods spoke with 2014 DE/LB Hoza Scott at the State 7-on-7 Tourney recently to get an update with his recruitment. He attended an LSU camp this week and said they made an impression but A&M and Texas remain atop his list (in that order). He mentioned simply needing more time with the Texas staff but he did enjoy his time in the film room with Diaz. Interesting that his mother says she would like him to stay close to home but would prefer he attends school outside of Texas (LSU could be a factor because of this). It doesn't mean much right now, but he says he wants to make his commitment after his junior season ends and potentially before Texas holds their Junior Days. Diaz and Applewhite will be the keys for UT.

    LOL

Scott likes aggsy because aggsy is the first school to talk to him.

After one season of aggsy in the SEC he will see that Texas is the place he can showcase his talent on a national level in the State of Texas and have the opportunity to win games. Aggsy not so much.

Just because aggsy plays in the SEC does not mean aggsy compete in the SEC.

OK State has offered DT Quincy Russell. I feel like he'll end up at Baylor because of his high school coach but we'll see what happens.
