I am unsure what you mean by the first portion: are you saying that it has two files for every song? One being the actual song which plays and the other being some sort of empty container file? I don't know the answer to your question either way (I have not had this issue), but I was just trying to clairify in case someone else has an answer.

As far as the text part, try a different keyboard (not trying to get you to switch if you are otherwise happy, just trying to isolate if the problem is indeed the keyboard, or something deeper).
To your first part, yes. Track listing is: Song 1. Song 1. Song 2. Song 2, etc.

iirc, it's happened with both keyboards i've tried. Currently happening with swype ND I believe it did it with the stock one.

I had this happen on a Captivate. It cleared up when I installed Player Pro. Great music app, btw.
    Thanks. I'll check it out.

Damn. That looked like a cool app but it's still duplicating.

Is there a way I can delete the database and restore it?

+1 for PlayerPro, the one music player I use.

I've had that weird duplication thing happen to me when installing a new ROM without wiping, but I think unmounting sdcard/rebooting fixed it.

This may be helpful. I don't use that Kies deal to put music on my phone. I just drag it to my SD card and that's it, but I never had this problem before this ICS update.

This might work for you, I think I have done this once.
Settings --> Apps (All Tab) --> Media Storage ---> Force Stop then Clear Data

    Then reboot.

Thanks. Looks like it worked, for now. I see that clearing databases is what clear days does. Should stick. If not, i'll be back to yell at you

    Great tip.

That clears the data and then lets media scanner repopulate with a clean scan.

No problem. Sometimes the old scan is retained with the new scan from the upgrade. I remember banging my head over this for a week

We're talking about launchers for the Home Screen/Application drawer. You can download custom ones that handle your apps, widgets, dock apps, gesture controls, scrolling etc. in customizable ways.

you can check them out at Play store:

    Apex Laucher

    Nova Launcher

    ADWLauncher
Ok. I'm currently using apex and kinda dig it. Haven't really done any serious tweaking. Just little stuff here and there and i'm liking it. Only beef so far is there's no badges on my messaging icon to show that I have new texts. It's up in my notifications but not on it's' icon. Is that a tradeoff in all these third party launchers?

Yeah, for some reason many launchers don't have the notification badge (I believe the LG launcher does). Apex launcher PRO has the badges, but of course it costs money.

Before you splurge on the paid version of Apex, you might also wanna consider Nova Launcher and its unread texts/messages addon, TeslaUnread. Both are free, so it can't hurt to try them out before dropping money elsewhere.

Also i'm not sensing the better RAM management in ICS. Not a day goes by where I have to wait for my phone to catch up with what i'm doing. Stuff I never got frozen up on in gingerbread.

That sucks, I am sorry to hear that since I am using a completely unofficial ICS port on my Evo 3d (there is no official ICS yet, and no source code) and it is substantially smoother than gingerbread. Maybe contact ATT about it. I am not sure what they can do, but if there are enough complaints, maybe something happens.

edit: my only other advice would, of course, be to root it and use a custom ROM, but I am not up on the various roms for the s2.

everyone having issues with their S2 on the ICS update... truth is, you will never reach the potential your phone has until you root your phone and put a new mod on it

Hmmm. Sounds I wonder if they'll give me a new phone if I enough. I've had text issues with this phone and had to send it to their shop once. I was never really convinced that what they did corrected my problem.

yeah, but if you have to wait the better part of a year for an update it should work. sorry job by at&t. Viva, you should also request credit from AT&T.
