What's the difference between a mod and a launcher

it may work, but you still wont benefit from the full capabilities of an android device, until its rooted and modded. EVER.
you have to be a moron to brick your phone, and there are very simple methods to do to reset the flash counter, so that you can make your phone appear stock, in case you need to return the phone for anything.
A launcher is basically like a GUI. It is the main overlay of your phone when launching apps, viewing your home page, widgets, etc...
A mod is basically a modified version of your operating system (Android). Many people make mods that get rid of all the pre-loaded useless software and apps that AT&T and other carriers load the phones with, that ultimately ends up hogging memory, disk space, and clutters up the phone.
What kind of phone do you have?
Galaxy s2
Prob will root, since no one here has anything negative to say about rooting
No wait !
It will destroy your phone !
Which is the actual model number? I9100? SGH-I777? SGH-T989? SGH-I727?
I rooted my Note this morning...mainly so I could download anium Backup and freeze the AT&T bloatware.
It was ridiculously easy to do.

Everything you will need is located in this thread.
But to make it more simple...
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1285823
Use this to get ClockWorkMod Recovery on your phone.
2) http://shortfuse.org/?page_id=2
Use this to root the phone.
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1568848
Use this to get Cyanogenmod 9 on your phone, which is about as good of a ROM as you will find for any phone. It is always a safe bet to go with this ROM.
Let me know if you have any questions or anything, and I can try to help you further.
I have installed Apex free version and its pretty cool
Even if I don't get the badges, I'm still getting messages/emails notifications in the notification bar, right?
Yup.
I have Pro, but I realized how little I rely on badges.
Thanks
Yeah as long as I get notifications in the status bar, badges are just optional for me.
Im currently using the Apex Jelly Bean launcher
Hey, Philip. I have a SGH-I727![]()
@Viva:
AOKP version (Cyanogen + AOKP): http://www.androidauthority.com/gala...tom-rom-97180/
Cyanogen 9 only: http://www.androidauthority.com/gala...enmod-9-83849/
is the at&t version locked down harder (bootloader?) or is it just a model peculiarity
I have the same phone, and lots of experience with various roms and other such things.
Use this to get root, and put Clockworkmod Recovery on the phone -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1773659
Then flash this rom. Better than Cyanogenmod 9, IMO -

Let me know if you have questions, I can definitely help you a lot with this.
Thanks stretch and sinok. I'll check them out.
So, first I need to root, then do the recovery deal and finish with the rom?
That is correct.
Cool. I may do that today.
That damn song duplication thing happened again yesterday. I kinda want to take it in, tell them everything that's been happening since the update, then watch them squirm to give me an answer. I'm shooting for the S3![]()
Now that I've rooted my Note and frozen all the bloatware, I'm wondering if there's any rom out there that performs better than my stock ICS? It's really pretty snappy with zero lags or bugs.
Well, maybe CM10 JB when it's stable.![]()
HTC One X may be dropping to $99 on contract for AT&T:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/27/h...ntract-at-att/
HTC might have turned green having seen the Galaxy S III steal the Android spotlight at AT&T, but it could be poised to use a classic trick to get the One X front and center once again: a price drop. An AT&T staff leak at XDA-Developers suggests the carrier is cutting the One X contract price in half to $100 on July 29th, putting it well under its Samsung rival and giving the similarly-priced Atrix HD no small amount of heat. Nothing's confirmed unless AT&T pulls the trigger, of course. If it does, we could see at least some shoppers deciding that HTC just makes more Sense (4.0) in the end.
Running Resurrection Remix updated with Jellybean, smooth as butter.
What's the purposes of rooting other than the bloatware shtuff?
