"As mayor, Julián Castro has worked tirelessly to move San Antonio forward by building its economy from the middle out, not the top down, by putting the city on a path to being a leader in the new energy economy and making innovative investments in education to prepare San Antonio's students for the jobs of the future," wrote Los Angeles Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa

    Great endorsement, btw

    hmmmmmm

I question whether this is a good move for him politically.

Our local politics are generally non-partisan and this is a major partisan statement. He is likely to alienate some financial supporters with this move.

you're right. the smart thing for a young, ambitious, hip democrat to do is to shun the national platform because a few local supporters might get cold feet.

Julian is a liberal Democrat. And has all the same faults. Like his plan to
increase sales tax to support his school plan.

As if we don't have enough people messing with the schools and school policy. Now
he wants to interject the Mayor and city council into the mix.

His only way out of SA would be to make a run for the US House in a safe district. Senate and Governor would be blocked by Republicans.

I think every Democrat in Texas has pretty much come to grips with this.

Oh yeah, I was reading some of the comments on the MYSA story on this. One guy called Castro a communist for being pro-toll roads. I gave up there.

I get being against toll roads, that's fine. But thinking they are communist?

I don't have a clue. Rubio would be a politically attractive choice as far as being young and vibrant and would probably help win Florida...Probably a better choice than another old white guy, but Romney may go for more national and international experience.

I would argue the opposite. Free roads are communist.

edit: well socialist anyway, but I wanted to use that guy's words against him.

That was my first thought. Actually my second. My first was "I don't think that word means what you think it means"

What is scary is that the demonrats always have whacky libtrards at these events, and the liberal masses eat that up.

Enlighten us, Wild Cobra, what makes Julian Castro a "whacky libtrard"?
