just for the purpose of making the game more watchable tbh. there's an age restriction for soccer in olympics games, in case you don't know it, which rules that you can only have 3 players aged 23+ on your squad at most and hence the soccer teams representing their countries are not the "best" teams we see on other tournaments like world cup, euro cup etc... and as a result the spaniards who've been dominating the world of soccer for years got eliminated in the group stage

I did know that about soccer. But if everyone can send their country's best, everyone has an opportunity. I want to see the best athletes - without limitations. But I can see how some people might want to restrict things.

Tbh, if you eliminate professional athletes from basketball then you also eliminate all the foreign players that are in clubs in their own country. Then you have USA college players dominating the best foreign players that aren't getting paid.
