Nash passed the ball on 62 percent of his pick-and-roll plays last season and his teammates shot 51 percent on those passes. He passed the ball on 54 percent of his isolation plays last season and his teammates shot 51 percent on those passes.
Nash passed the ball to spot-up shooters 389 times on pick-and-roll plays last season, the most such passes in the league.
KOBE MAKES OPEN SHOTS
Of the 337 players with at least 15 unguarded catch-and-shoot jumpers last season, nobody was left open less often than Kobe. Only 35.2 percent of his catch-and-shoot jumpers were unguarded.
When Kobe was left open, he shot 51.3 percent, which ranked 11th of the 113 players with at least 75 unguarded catch-and-shoot jumpers last season. It was the highest such percentage of the nine Lakers players with at least 20 attempts last season.

The Spurs and OKC are still the teams to beat in the West. Mummified Nash will only go so far. In his last game as a Sun he got burned by third - fourth string point guard Patty Mills.

Mummified Nash lead the league in total assists last year with Gortat, Hill, and Dudley as his best teammates. Just think what he'll do with Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum.
The Lakers didn't really improve. They got older and slower. They have spent over a month trying to get Howard, and nothing has or will happen. It is a shame they didn't get that scrub CJ Miles or that washed up piece of Grant Hill.

The Heat didn't really improve either. 43 year old Ray Allen and Re Lewis are shooters. What about your inside game? The 4-corners give LBJ or Wade the ball offense isn't all that. Your shooters got hot at the right time and the rest was history. I was hardly impressed with the Heat being a team that hadn't ever been to the Finals before.
That being said, the Lakers have filled a few major holes in their armor and are expected to be improved this year:
1) Nash. Sure, no one will mistake him for being a lock-down defender. However, the days of opposing PGs "taking the night off defensively" against the Lakers are over. Midrange game, 3pt game, and passing game for Nash is still deadly. Go double/triple Kobe, Gasol, or Bynum at your own risk.
2) Backup bigs. Out: McB
3) Nash's effect on Kobe. Have you guys been watching the Olympics. CP3 is ball dominant just like Nash. How has Kobe looked next to CP3? Here's a hint: really good. He will be able to play the same way with Nash making life so much easier. Kobe won't have to work as hard for his shots. Kobe will see less double teams - or Nash will find an open Bynum or Gasol for an uncontested dunk. Kobe has never played with a player like Nash and he still won 5 rangs. Nash will extend Kobe's elite shelf life.
4) Bynum's expected improvement. He finally broke out last year. 18/11/2 with the likes of Fisher and Sessions manning the PG. I'm expecting another breakout season for him. He has soft hands and is an ambidextrous finisher. Nash will get some of the easiest assists he ever had playing with Bynum. He's also going to Germany to get the Kobe treatment on his knee. 22/13/3 on 60% is not out of the realm of possibilities for Bynum playing with Nash.
The only thing left for the Lakers now is a knockdown shooter. That will complete the Lakers. The roster is still a work in progress. But even with no more changes, I like the Lakers in 6 over Miami right now.

Unlike Sessions, he's a bonafied HOFer. Unlike Sessions, it won't be his first playoffs. Unlike Sessions, he won't the bed at the sight of Westbroke. We'll be there.
