Yoni would have posted a thread about this regardless of what happened.

No racial uproar? Claim hypocrisy and selectivity, whine.

Racial uproar? Claim PC run amok, whine.

    So predictable and so droll.

So you don't see this as racist, yet you are questioning why the NAACP, the Rainbow Coalition, etc don't either.

You and this thread both suck.
There are many things I don't believe have a racial component and yet, the NAACP, the Rainbow Coalition, etc come out of the woodwork to condemn. One of the major instigators, over the years, is the visual use of monkeys, gorillas, chimpanzees, etc... and references to comical African stereotypes in too close proximity to a favored African-American.

I think it just happened to be because of who was responsible, NBC. A friendly.

When I watched it, I said jokingly to mywife, "wow that's racist". I said it jokingly because I don't think NBC would intentionally degrade a girl that dedicated her life to win a medal for our country. I thought the host's speech was more offensive tbh.

So you think they didn't show outrage over a non-outrageous issue simply because it was NBC.

    Outrageous!

To answer the question in the le, it seems that the outrage lies solely in the original poster.

I'm not outraged. Was just pointing another hypocrisy of the Left. That's all.

I was watching at the time and was more caught up in what Costas was talking about -- that he thought it so important to identify her by race. When I saw the monkey commercial, I just saw a silly ad with a monkey. If your first thought is "wow, that's racist", then perhaps you should ask yourself why the sight of a monkey gives you an instantaneous association with African-mericans. THAT'S racist!

So even though you don't see racism here, you are still saying the NAACP, Rainbow Coalition, et al need to or else they are hypocrites.

Lol people who made the connection either called black people monkeys or the blacks have been called a monkey by somebody. If no connection was made in your mind then I'd say you passed the racism test. Sort of like finding out that you aren't gay when you don't get a rise looking at gay porn. Yoni obviously failed this test and I think you're lying about not making the connection.

Actually, I didn't make the connection until I read about it a day or two later. And, I was watching the Costas interview and saw the commercial. But, I know, because I chose to discuss it, that makes me a racist. Cool.

I actually agree with you, if you saw that commercial and immediately associated it with black people, you're a racist or you're overly sensitive racism.

while at the same time, failing to display anti-racist umbrage makes people hypocrites.

ain't it great having things both ways?

I think the case is mostly due to being overly sensitive to be real with you, yeah. Gotta use your head sometimes. Did NBC reeeeaaally do that with racial intent? Nah. That's why there isn't much outrage over it.

And, if the Olympics were on Fox and that ad had run after an interview with a black gymnast?
