I have no doubt that there's plenty of politicians who would like to ban all guns, but it will never happen, as gun lobbies are too powerful.... kind of a gross reason why, as I wish it was because our elected officials were too faithful to the Cons ution to undermine an extremely important amendment, but I'll take what I can get, tbh....

I also wouldn't be surprised if they think he is the in' anti-Christ. If only people could see the truth about Obama which is he is Bush. Obama has almost completed a 3rd term of Bush. The purchases and requests to purchase will always e after a well publicized event involving shootings. They will also e when gun laws are proposed in Congress (people trying to get ahead of the game). The largest purchase of high capacity magazines happens when their manufacturing is listed for restriction. Congress often will not prevent a retailer from selling what he has already purchased, but will only prevent manufacturers from continuing to make those magazines, so anything already purchased from a manufacturer suddenly increases in price and sells out overnight.
Long term, it would have an impact, but that would take 20+ years, i think. The newer generation that wasn't allowed to easily purchase handguns or high capacity magazines would get away from the concept of seeing them in the home all the time. After about 40 years, it would become something similar to what Australia has. It would take that long because, unlike Australia, the US was founded and developed by use of force, and carrying a firearm is a right of passage.
Also, people need to understand that congress and the USSC has the power to effect change. The President has individual power, but can only propose change. Veto is a huge power, but there's no opposite power that allows him to override congress and approve his own proposal.
I think the main power of the President resides in his ability to appoint Supreme Court justices. The political leanings of those justices shape our society over the decades.
