Argentina has been damn lucky that Spain tanked their last game. They would have been destroyed by their bigmen.

FIBA should try to change their tournament formula to avoid tanking because it really screw the integrity of the game.

I know your hate for Scola is big, but come on Bruno, it wouldn't have been a walk in the park as you're coloring it on this post...

Argentina vs. Spain for the Bronze is going to be a of a game. I give the edge to Argentina because they'll be a little bit more motivated (Spain will be depressed about not making the gold medal game). Ginobili would have to come up huge but I think he could do it.
I think Spain is overrated this year tbh. I think Argentina could beat Spain.

good game to watch besides the whistle being blown every second, Delfino did a Good job in the 1st and Nocioni was the dark horse he played very well. Pablo Prigioni ing sucks, I can't believe the Knicks signed him at 35 they should have signed Huertas if anything who is 29 not 35 and better...but god Damn Manu every single game does some play that just raises your eye brows. Doc Rivers just said Ginobili is one of the great finishers of our time.

I'm sure we'll win the silver medal but if we play Argentina for the bronze medal we'll beat them

Spain played an awful second half Vs Russia but Russia is the only team close to Spain. Argentina have no chance.

Anyway I don't like to lose games on purpose like we did vs Brazil. I would prefer to win the bronze medal. We deserve to lose vs Russia

Scola is too little to face the Gasols and Ibaka.

It may sound like I'm bitter but I'm not. I wish all the best to Argentina national team because they deserve it. Saying that, you had to admit they are something really wrong in the Olympic tournament format.

Same in the NBA. Memphis did the same to face us.

True, that tanking was really infamous. I think France would have beaten Brazil and maybe even Russia too.

Well, it's less common in NBA. Every summer, a team tanked to get a better bracket: Greece tanked in 2009 in 2010, France tanked in 2011 and Spain tanked this year.

NBA is too looking at a solution to avoid that. In the D-League, top teams are picking their opponent for the playoffs. I don't know if it will one day make it to the NAB but they are at least trying to solve this issue.

Yeah I know, but at this point in his career I rather have Campazzo getting the minutes

So much for Brazil being better. I'm not surprised Argentina pulled it out. Magnano should have stayed big and played Splitter next to Nene. That might have forced Argentina to close with Gutierrez over Nocioni. If they stayed with Nocioni though, then obviously Splitter would have had a mismatch in the post, moreso than Nocioni would have on the other end (limited shot creator, with minimal speed/quickness). Three of Brazil's top five players are bigs, yet instead of playing to their strengths, they went down with only one of the bigs closing.

It's a different game. In international ball, you can sit under the rim for as long as you want and hack at the bigs. That's why ARG can get away with playing Scola and 4 guards and still win.

I wasn't talking about lottery teams tanking to get a better picks. I was talking about NBA playoffs teams tanking to get a specific opponent.

Lottery teams tanking is way less problematic because it has no impact on what team will win the championship the year they tanked. It's not because some crappy teams have tanked that Miami won the championship. On the other hand, the Spanish tanking has a direct impact on teams that will get or not a medal at these Olympics.

I'm aware. You're missing the point though. I don't care what type of rules it is; it's still basketball. Brazil wasn't going to win by going away from their advantage and playing into Argentina's hands.

The dumb Olympic format is one reason why the NBA is thinking about (and should follow through with) starting their own international tournament. When you have a format that screams for tactical tanking, something is wrong.
