Assuming a max extension for Dwight, Lakers would have $90.8M committed to just seven players in 2013-14.

Can't imagine why Orlando accepted this deal. Almost seems worse than letting Dwight walk in 2013.

He could in Brooklyn if he feels overshadowed by Kobe's presence.
Brooklyn is ... they've yet to establish themselves... Knicks or LA is where the money's at...

Bynum will dominate the east, tbh. He doesn't have to deal with Howard, McGoo, Blake/Jordan, etc for more than twice a season.
    Or get out-rebounded by Bonner

Please let this happen. Lakers lose all their skill in the post and join the Clippers as the second monkeyball team in Los Angeles.

If Mitch wasn't the most overrated GM of all time, he'd realize that the Lakers need wing athleticism and youth off the bench much more than they need Dwight Howard, and would instead try to move Gasol to fill those holes.
    Overrated, huh?

The Lakers ed up by bring in Mike Brown. Bynum had to go after the he pulled last year. If they could move the 30 million dollar boat anchor they might make a run but it's not going to happen with that tired ass team.

They keep throwing teams together, totally changing the landscape and expecting a good result in the 1st year. You need a really super team to get that, and they don't have one. DHoward deal isn't even close to the Shaq move, and it's not even as good as the Pau Gasol move given the rest of the team and coach.
Solid take, tbh... also, the Lakers are completely changing their offensive system as well, which won't be an easy transition after years of running the Triangle...

They just shuffled the deck chairs on the anic, tbh... sure, they dumped Richardson's contract, but they took on Harrington's contract in its place...

As much as people talk about the Howard move now, how come nobody mentions that young athletic PG's like Westbrook will ass rape Nash. No way in can Nash stay in front of guys like Westbrook. Kobe and Artest can't check Durant anymore. The Thunder also have the bigs to deal with Dwight with Ibaka and Perkins. I still think the Thunder are the favorites in the West...

My only question is are the lakers ready to go into deep luxury tax mode to offer a max contract to Howard? I know they will have to provide the 7.5% increase per year to stay above the 4.5% other teams can provide as their max..

Also, doesn't this blow the bench as well? I mean what do they do when Howard and Nash's back issues come into play again (per the usual)?

Cable deal, Kobe moving merchandise, Dwight will move even more merchandise.

Lakers can pay everybody max and still turn a profit.
