No, the Star called it pretty well. Kobe was too selfish. He looked and saw the bulk of the NBA talent wasn't going, so he didn't think it was worth the effort. He's accustomed to having Shaq carry him and Shaq didn't go.
He never adapted to FIBA calls... that the reality of it. He wasn't in foul trouble just that game, he had trouble all tournament.
That's like asking why the 2nd top scorer in the NBA was throwing airballs against FIBA players out there and had to give the ball to Lebron to secure the wins... it's a different game.

Not just Odom. Also Loozer.![]()
sons with the Olympics around the corner, a little history lesson for you all ...

He was. I'm not giving him a pass, because he could never figure it out and you could tell he was frustrated. But that was ARG plan all along... get him in foul trouble, pack the paint and let Richard Jefferson beat them from outside. It worked.
son, nobody is giving Duncan a pass... but "Kobe led the 08 team to Gold" rings as true as Stern hating the Lakers, tbh...
Quitting = 2 gold medals
At least a Spur got a gold medal![]()
getting outperformed by Boozer
outshined by Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol's
two actually...![]()
he had more loyalty to his friend than to his country...Pop and Tim wanted Manu to win because they knew how much it would boost his confidence and make him a better player...the plan came full circle when the Spurs defeated the Pistons (team that raped the Lakers the year before) with Manu arguably being the 2nd most important factor of the win...
I know it hurts to know no matter how many stats you throw to us and to yourself, that Kobe is not a top 10 player let alone ranked ahead of Duncan, but this obsession with Duncan has got to stop...the Lakers historically are better team than the Spurs, so i don't see why you need to fight tooth n nail for such a small piece in such your team's history.
You know what makes it even funnier? Boozer redeemed himself and won the Gold.![]()
Kobe Bryant is undefeated in international compe ion.
Gold at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship
Gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics
Gold at the 2012 London Olympics
Shawn Marion is worse... he lost to ARG both in 2002 and 2004...![]()
Him and KD are the gold standard of the contemporary Team USA.
But spurfan led me to believe Duncan was the superior player, that unlike Kobe, could single-handedly carry teams to victory, why would he need Kobe's help, right?
Jimmy boy needing Kobe's leadership to get gold
TOSB Duncan wishing he could ride Kobe's coattails to gold
Enjoy jim's stained medal, spurfan
Jimbo's self-imposed exile from olympic basketball after his shameful 04 performance

Can Spursfan tell me why Duncan needed Kobe on the 04 team?
Didn't Duncan carry scrubs to championships his whole career while Kobe got carried by elite big men?
, those are some ugly ass kids, tbh..
The ape under his left arm probably needs a nice bath, tbh..
Truth be told, Wade, Lebron and Melo already have more medals than him or KD...
Jim was sad about Kobe not playing so he vowed not to play at all anymore

Cmon, gold standard, not gold with bronze standard.![]()
medal is a medal, son... it's not like Kirby isn't counting the rings he coattailed Shaq for...
He already had two Kobes on the '04 team, except they were named Iverson and Marbury, tbh....
