The DPOY is a media award, fwiw. So naturally they'll go for things that reflect a shift in DRtg or BLK%.

And for those saying only offensively challenged bigs win it, then how come KG, Hakeem, and the Admiral have one each?

Not to mention that if Duncan were hurt the Spurs would go on bad stretches. He's the only reason they're even a top 10 defense and that's with him being a bona fide TOSB.

I agree, Bowen or Duncan definitely should've won a DPOY in the early-mid 2000's. Bruce deserves one just as much as Tim does if not more but I'd give it to Timmy (just because I'm a big Duncan fan.)

People didn't get by Bruce; he was easily the best since maybe Pippen at staying in front of his man. Tim wasn't even the best defender on the team until '08-'09 or so.
To me their roles were too different for anyone to claim one was better than the other. Seems more of a very successful symbiotic relationship. Bruce was more impressive on single coverage and Tim was the catalyst that allowed it all to mesh as a cohesive unit.

That neither received a DPOY during their careers sucks. It seems like Garnett won his for the same reasons you could justify Timmy getting one during a good Spurs year.

I agree with you on Bruce being more deserving the more I look at it though... the Pistons were beast on defense and Ben was the unique piece that made them special. Bruce was the player that made the Spurs defense special.

Yes for either Duncan or Bowen but the media split the vote on them.
Media screwed the pooch year after year. Ain't nothing new about that.
