I don't care how they do it that defense with be awesome.
Just keep protecting Donte Whitner from having to cover literally anyone, and that defense will once again be awesome.
I don't care how they do it that defense with be awesome.
Aldon Smith is back at practice
Jacobs knee has no severe damage, should be back before the season starts
That is good news. The niners really need him for those 3rd downs. They were terrible on 3rd down last year.
Avante still thinks it's the old days when a running game and a defensive iden y was all that was needed to win championships.
, he's in for a rude awakening, especially with Alex Smith taking those snaps.
The Niners were 29th in passing, the Ravens were 19th. Both a few plays away from meeting in the SB. Who would is motoe that keeps then running for those teams....Frank Gore/Ray Rice and defense. So yes you can win with a strong running game and a monster D.
Figures......especially with who was taking the snaps on both teams, respectively
The bottom line is this...
If you have a great/elite QB like an Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees you can get by without a great defense/running game. Yes a great passing attack will be enought. If however you don't have that great/elite QB you can win if you do everything else well. You must win the turnover battle, run the ball, play monster D and special teams. So it's easier to win with that great/elite QB but you can win without one if you have a great team.
Alex Smith is a middle of the pack QB, but on a team with Frank Gore/Vernon Davis/monster SD/best special teams in the league he can win. So it takes a lot more to make up for an average QB.
Doesn't anyone here watch the games? I'm starting to wonder because if you do how many times have you heard......until they can establish the run...or....they need a running attack.....well?
Here's reality...(fantasy example)
The Giants have no running game, Jacobs is hurt and Bradshaw is nursing a sore hammy. The Eagles know that. On first down Bradshaw has a hole but lacks that burst...2 yards. Second down those backers are laying back not at all concerned with an 80% running back. Eli throws to Nicks...incomplete...third and 8. Now what happens, yep here comes that Eagle pass rush.
Now what if the Giants have a ground game? Bradshaw explodes for seven, still an incomplete pass but it's now 3rd and short. No way those backers are laying off, this is a run/pass?????....situation. The Eagles are also reluctant to all out rush Eli.
That's what a running game does. It makes the passing game so much more effective.
I guarantee all that will be said sometime during some game you are watching in 2012. That is football.
Yes we could easily of had the Niners vs Ravens in last seasons SB, three plays away from that happening so to play..."it's all about passing the ball"...isn't realistic. Yes yes yes it is a pasing league, no no no that isn't the all everything.
This from John Clayton...
Arrow is pointing: up
17. Alex Smith, San Francisco 49ers
Quote:
Analysis: Smith had the greatest rise of any quarterback in football last year. I ranked him 28th going into last season, and his résumé made him more a miss than a hit. Thanks to Jim Harbaugh's scheme and hard work by Smith, he has become a playoff-caliber Pennington.
Jaworski had him at 16. Yep, middle of the pack.
Avante, you're still missing my (and most others) point. Middle of the pack QB's don't win championships. And don't come back with the same arguments you've been using ad nauseam.
He's not elite, nor even close.
Yes, the Niners have a strong rushing attack and a strong defense...everyone knows
Yes, they were close to making the ing super bowl last year, but they didn't...so stfu about it. This year isn't last year
Stop repeating the same over and over again...you're not adding anything to the discussion
Why don't you try something novel, like telling me, in your infinite wisdom, how the right side of that Niner o-line is going to do with a new guy (Boone) in there?
How about breaking Alex Smith down and telling us what he can do to improve?
How should the Niners juggle all these receivers in order to keep them happy and mentally in the game?
What players, outside of Willis/Rodgers/Smith, will be key on defense?
Who's your breakout player?
All i've seen you do around here is generalize and compare to teams from the 1800's..it's old and it's mother ing tired. You don't know everything...not even close. Frankly, I think you're one of the least knowledgeable posters in this forum in regards to the contemporary game of football
Stop being a parrot, and start coming up with some new takes.
And be specific, not just with names, but why those names are good/bad etc...
you strike me as a homer who can't bag on anybody if they play for your team...that makes you an awful fan, imo
This statement sums you up perfectly
Here I sit able to tell you every single player in the NFL. Yep, all those guys who weren't even drafted and what school they played for. Totally able to break every single team down by position. Totally able to break every single game down from a gambling perspective, I'm talking trends and stats. You see it's all about particuler "spots" these teams are in during a season. How do they perform in that "spot" from an historical perspective.

There is nobody here or anywhere else you will ever encounter who knows more able the present, future and past of the pro game than myself. As you will see as the season goes on.
I realize you need to play the smartass in hiding because you've noticed I know my and obviously I have to be challanged. It's how things are done on these boards. I'm been dying to show off so thanks.
First off pull your head out of ass and look around you. Eli Manning was no elite QB when it beat an elite QB when he won his first SB, go ahead do your homework for a change and learn something. Are you trying to tell me Big Ben was an elite QB when he won his SB, once again do your homework something you obviously haven't done. Tell me what you find, yep, neither were elite QB's at that time so cool this idiotic....only elite QB's can win the big one....bull !!!!!!!
The Niners will will do all that can to work Moss and Jenkins over the top so Crabtree can eat up the inside. Manningham the twekker being the most versatile receiver. As we know Jenkins has been a disappointment but it is early. There will be plenty of work for everyone, keeping them in the game, are you serious? Vernon Davis will continue to be Vernon Davis. I think both Kyle Williams and Tedd Ginn have accepted their role as backups.
How can you even mention defense without mentioning NaVarro Bowman and Dashon Goldson, I'm guessing you were talking about Aldon Smith not Justin. As we know that front seven is the best in the league, Ray McDonald!!!!!!! Right here is the real strength of the 49ers. No team has a better front seven.
Look for rookie safetyTrendon Robinson MSU to make an impact in nickels. I don't see James keeping Kendall Hunter on the bench so he will be a disappointment. Also not sold on Jenkins...yet.
That Niner O line has youth and experience with 11 year vet Jonathan Goodwin and a bunch of second/third year players. Staley being the stud obviously. Moving Boone into that RG spot is ify, right now it's..? There will be no problem in the offensive line, plenty of quality depth.
Alex Smith, what can he do go from a middle of the packer to an elite QB? How about some stability to begin with, he's played in how many different systems? Obviously his biggest problem is that holds on to the ball to long, he need to unload a of a lot quicker. He also needs to do a better job of throwing receivers open. With another year in the same system and the addition of Moss, Manningham and maybe Jenkins should help. As we know he does protect the ball, only five INT's.
Dude, the key to winning in the NFL is winning on the road. The great teams can and the bad ones can't. It's also all about protecting the ball, turnovers will kill any team. I know I know you really believe....gotta have that elite QB because lately..... Dude,Smith beat Drew Brees. Eli Manning beat Brady twice in the biggie. Joe Flacco was one game away from a SB, what did Tim Tebow do in 2012? The best QB in the league Aaron Rodgers didn't even play in the Championship game, Alex Smith did.
If you are going to make the big mistake of going around..."you don't know so much"....this season it will be a very long season for you, trust me!
So who are those teams that win early in the season, the ones who show up in Sept? How about those who suck? Well since you're dying to know....
The best bet in the NFL in the month of Sept is....Denver Broncos since 1990. The worst bet....Arizona Cardinals
Taking you to school will be fun![]()
Give this a shot...

Not a homer at all, so wrong as usual.
Up until last season Alex Smith sucked long and hard, all us Niners fans were complaining about him. He did play well enought last season to get a.....just maybe.... no he's not elite I've never said he was. I've said...middle of the pack....because he is. If somebody sucks they suck who they play for means nothing. I'm not all that impressed with Crabtree, if they traded him, see ya!~~~~~~~~
This above is why people hate you. Just bring the knowledge. Don't lord it over everyone.
Good , bring what you got. Your book sized response is also an entry level education in the art of 'trolling'. I simply pushed a few buttons that were easily visible and you flew off the handle. Learn not to take things so personally and you'll do okay around here. Most posters don't take so seriously, but simply enjoy raking those who are naive through the coals. Be aware that you are a target and in many instances the best answer is no answer at all.I realize you need to play the smartass in hiding because you've noticed I know my and obviously I have to be challanged. It's how things are done on these boards. I'm been dying to show off so thanks.
Every single "elite" quarterback came into this league as an unproven commodity. There is no such thing as a great quarterback right out of the box. How many rookies QB's have won the super bowl? They have to grow into that role. Most, if not all of them, show flashes early on, but still require the right ingredients around them to fulfill their potential. So your preceding argument sucks. Those guys you mentioned are now elite, period. By (my)definition, no single QB in history was elite when they won their first SB.First off pull your head out of ass and look around you. These are the takes that will get you places around here. Not the regurgitated, generalized, that you seem to fall back on when people hurt your feelingsThe Niners will will do all that can to work Moss and Jenkins over the top so Crabtree can eat up the inside. Again, what you don't understand is that at the end of the day nobody gives a how much more you may know than they do. You probably do know more than me since I don't have a "fortress of solitude" where I can ignore my wife and read FB publications all day. I'm cool with that. It was simply a way for me to push your buttons and challenge you to become a less ty poster. Your delivery and style (not substance) are what get you in trouble around here. Tone down your god complex, relax a bit, and stick to your obviously wide range of football knowledge and you'll be okay.If you are going to make the big mistake of going around..."you don't know so much"....this season it will be a very long season for you, trust me!

I agree about Crabtree, for now. However, I don't think you can fully judge him yet since he hasn't had a guy who can get him the ball on a consistent basis. Since his early holdout and some flashes of being a prima-donna, he's (for the most part) buckled down and bought into the team effort. His hands are like flypaper, even though he doesn't have the speed some other guys do, so I think he could still become a legit number one target. Larry Fitzgerald is the guy that comes to mind when I think about Crab. He's not there, nor really close, but I think he could definitely become that type of player if he works hard enough and gets the deliveries he needs
And fair enough on the Homer point. I'll concede that one
Just a message board guy, do what I do have fun with it. Too many here are way too serious. I act the way I do because it's more exciting/interesting than being just another poster. What's really cool is that I tell the truth about everything, funnier than reading..."you don't have all that music"..knowing I do.."you don't know football"...when I obviously do. It's funny seeing the reaction after you've proven yourself. Look at you, you actually thought I was just some trivia/history freak, nope! I'm a gambler I have to know what's going on today.

You really do need to bone up on SB history and QBing. Hopefully you don't think I think that rookie QB's are great. I hope you also know that you are totally wrong about most of that. Yes "elite" QBs have won the SB. I can't believe you said that.
The fact that Eli and Big Ben morped into elite QB's they were anything but that when they won their first. What came later means nothing. So you are wrong about all that. Yes with the ...right incredients...remark.
While Crabtree obviously has to potential to be a solid receiver he is a galaxy away and always will be from Larry Fitzgerald, two totally different levels.
yeah i wouldnt consider eli, big ben or...trent dilfer elite QB's.
lol
Big Ben and Eli both have 2sb's..so yeah, they're elite
Dilfer is definitely not elite. He's an anomaly
lol
Dilfer isn't really an anomaly, he won a superbowl before the NFL became a pass happy league and also during a ty transition period in the NFL.
