The X-factor. Dwight's back. Tough injury to recover from, but he's a young guy. Chances are good for him.

Oh and @ Orlando. Did they really just trade Dwight Howard for Arron Afflalo's horrible contract and a few trash pieces? I don't see WTF they are doing. Afflalo is like Danny Green but more of a ballhog, a worse defender and makes more than double as much money.

    D12 deal: Head-scratcher for Magic
Lakers, Nuggets, Sixers win big, but Orlando's returns for Howard far too weak
No surprises here tbh. It was only a matter of time before DHo wound up with LAL.

    Well
Orlando did get a better deal than the last time one of their perennial all star centers went to the Lakers

Dwight & Drew will not sign an extension with any team at this time…After this season they will be eligible to sign 5 year max deals…Lakers payroll is about 100 million before luxury tax’s kick in…That being said the Lakers never lose a star player to the free agent market...

And this article basically implies that letting the contract expire and re-signing with the new team as an FA is better financially for the player.

Dwight is so gung ho on going to NJ and teaming up with D-Will that it could happen next summer. If the Lakers win the le though forget about it, he's re-signing.

There is quite literally no way Dwight can sign with NJ next season.

Lakers traded Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard... I wouldn't doubt anything if it somehow benefited the NBA's cash flow. They'll weigh their options at the end of the season but I doubt LA loses Dwight since it assures their relevancy post-Kobe.

That's fine - but when you look at what's realistic, Dwight signing in Brooklyn as a FA is not a probable or likely situation.

As previously posted…Dwight has been in LA all summer…His meals & hotel rooms are comp’d…He gets celebrity treatment at ball games…His marketing has doubled…Probably going to get guest appearances on TV’s shows that are filmed out here…He is looking at homes that overlook the Pacific Ocean…Really doubt that he will want to sign with another team…

perpetual shock over the Lakers' aquisitions
we just need one more piece
    it's all Bonner's fault
    it's all Pop's fault
who could we trade for Howard?
same scenario happening on other small market teams

17th season for Kobe and Nash.... Not trying to be twisted....but isn't it time for a ankle or hammy injury that won't heal? Father time is undefeated, it is time for him to start throwing lobs toward LA...

I don't wish injury on anyone, but I do wonder how Nash will fare without the miraculous Phoenix medical staff keeping him upright, tbh.....

I actually like Bynums game better. Howard is obviously the better athlete but Bynum is the better basketball player.

I guess we'll find out whether Bynums bad at ude was a result of his immaturity or Kobe's lack of trust. Its probably both so Kobe's lack of trust will still be a factor with Howard, someone whose commitment issues are also in question.

Most of us LA fans know that Bynum is more offensively skilled and has a better touch than Dwight and I don't even think it's close. Dwight's game, much like LeBron's, is predicated mainly on athleticism. When that starts to go, they won't be nearly as effective. I believe Bynum will be a better player than Howard in about 2 years. But the Lakers problem wasn't about getting a better player, but a better fit next to Gasol. Howard is PERFECT. He is going to Gobble up every damn rebound and let Gasol do his work in the post.

No ripple effects. The Spurs couldn't get over a team that doesn't even have a legit inside presence. They will win a lot of regular season games and, barring injuries, will lose in the 1st round.

A core of Nash, Kobe, D-Ho and Gasol leapfrogged the Spurs on paper.

By a significant margin. Only a homer would say otherwise.

Prior to this trade, you could say the Spurs and Lakers were about even. But now, on paper, you can't.

I am dragging it up prior to it happening, unlike some who cherry pick later. If I am wrong, at least there's fresh reminders.

    Delicious

Yes, the built-in advantages of having the savvy to pick the youngest player ever drafted and then not unloading him for trash. It really comes down to the Lakers having, by far and away, the best front office in the NBA for the past 30+ years.

    I know, it hurts.
