I assume you need speakers too? Or just the receiver?
lol, this is what I've used for the past decade for TV watching and ipod music playing (AUX input)

Good bass, tbh
Anyone got any good ones? Like, to hook up to my TV and possibly bring in another receiver that I could connect my iphone to and play music from, too?
My room is probably bigger than most living rooms. Looking to spend around $500. Really not looking for anything too much.

tbh I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to speaker systems. I am clueless as can be. I it all right now, I think.
Cnet said this is a good deal http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001202C44/...SIN=B001202C44
But that there is a Pioneer set for the same price that sounds better, but is just larger and the same price. I can't find it on amazon or newegg, though.
But what I mainly use it for is to show my ty music taste to people that come over and drink. So I guess what I mainly need it for is music. Nothing too big. Just imagine around 5-10 people hanging out and drinking.
Those seem to be good speakers, but you'd need a receiver to hook it all up. Or you can look into Home Theatre in a Box (HTIB) for cheaper, all-in-one solutions, like this
Okay, I get it. I am going to look t spend around 150-200 on a receiver and buy that 400 dollar system. Sound smart? Only a little over my budget.
Dayum homie, tell me what you find. IT's been a couple of years since I looked into receivers, but even decent entry ones usually are $300. Might have to look into pre-owned, tbh.
Flip, serious? Told you I know nothing tbh. Though there seem to be some in the 200's on amazon.
That HTIB you linked is pretty tempting tbh. And it would allow me to buy my headphones quicker than I had planned.
Might be the best option. Buying a full system probably ain't worth it unless you're dropping a grand on it, imo. If there's no need for that now, save your cash for something else.
Can you have a sub?
I would go with the HTIB concept too. They are generally the most cost-effective way to go. My oldest son has this one:http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BDV-E780W...theater+system
The sound is really pretty good for the price point and it's DLNA compliant. Having a built in wireless internet connection is pretty cool and let's you access Netflix, VuDu, etc.
I'm a quasi-audio snob, but the performance was pretty nice. Go to Fry's or Best Buy and audition some systems.
I personally like HK.
Bought the HTIB you linked, rez. Tankz, brah. You da man.
Damn nicca, you move fast. No prob, it should do the job admirably, and leaves you with a bit more cash in your pocket.
Honestly you should sit on slickdeals.net daily. They have theater systems that go on special at least once a week.
Oops, NM
I'm a pretty compulsive buyer, tbh.
except on headphones, you took like 2 months to buy those right?
I think I was broke. What made me take long was that, and it had me over thinking everything. I do tend to have buyers remorse, and say "20 more bucks could have got me this" a lot, though.
curious now - which headphones did you get? I got Sony Btr 550 last year and they have been pretty good. also have an older Bose set, but I always am on the lookout. Have gone through several sets trying to find the right blend of comfort and sound quality.
I just ordered Onkyo s5500 HTIB. Not DLNA compliant and has no apps, but I have a blu ray player for apps and it has 4 HDMI in with good reviews on sound quality. Hoping it pans out.
Edit: just noticed you ended up getting Onkyo HTIB as well - I thought you were opting for that Energy brand one and was curious how they compared.
Anything should be better after running this system for the last 11 years...

Although for a system which only pushes 25W it sounds surprisingly good, especially with an added sub.![]()

I recently saw this in a shop: http://www.sony.com.au/product/cmt-mx750ni
Love the built in DLNA client to play music directly from my network server, ipod/iphone dock, internet radio playback.
Nice complete package for the type of media that I use.
Sound quality is about what you can expect in this price range.
I have some Shure 840's that served me well, but mostly use my Earsonics SM3's now. Going to buy an amp and DAC combo of arounnd $500 and buy some HD650's(hopefully) around christmas time. If not, I'll get it with my taxes.
looks nice and polished - how is the interface?
Basic
3 or 4 lines of text. monochromatic. no graphics.
I don't think you can expect a GUI for 375$.
