like Ive told you many times your comphrehension skills totally suck. Things have to be drawn out for you.
Uh, no, my comprehension skills don't suck. 99.9% of people would take "you never post your opinions about things" as "you never post your opinions about things." My comprehension skills don't suck. YOU suck at getting your point across. You make stupid posts, then magically expect people to know what you are talking about. Post what you mean, moron.

Where have you ever started a thread here?
Use the search function, re . I've started plenty of threads.

With the possible exception of Sonic Youth, that list is

And if it wasn't for Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and everyone else for that matter, would have been playing like I wanna hold your hand yeah, yeah, yeah the remainder of their incredibly short and unspectacular careers.
The Beatles did more in 10 years than most bands could ever hope to do. How is their career unspectacular?

I have prewar blues, classic oldies, rock & roll, R&B, soul, country & western and tons of it. Big up on Bob Marley, Tom Waits, The White Strips, The Black Keys. Been listening to everything since the late 50's. The stuff we hear today is not on the same level compared to what we heard once upon a time.

I'll ask again, how old are you?
I asked you earlier and you said you had only listened to a dozen of the bands I listed and now you're ting out an opinion on them. That's laughable.

Yeah that's obvious to all of us. To make an endless supply of lists showing off your musical tastes for everyone to admire. I'm not sure just how hard you came after so vigorously masturbating to your own music a en, but I'd suggest buying a new keyboard regardless.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Are you drunk? You start off by saying the Beatles are responsible for today's music... then you turn around and call their own song and that they all had short careers.

Give us your opinions on Sonic Youth, Radiohead, The Roots, Bjork, and Boards of Canada.
OK . . . , but it doesn't matter because music preferences are subjective.

I think Sonic Youth is the most influential of the bands mentioned. I also really digg the majority of their music. Radiohead has put out some truly great music, but also have a lot of over-indulgent, boring . The Roots are a great band, but I don't see them as influential, or even that original, tbh. Bjork and Boards of Canada bore the out of me.

However, none of these bands are in the same ballpark, influentially speaking with The Beatles, Stones or Dylan. not even Neil Young, Velvet Underground or the Stooges.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Are you drunk? You start off by saying the Beatles are responsible for today's music... then you turn around and call their own song and that they all had short careers.
I think you have me confused with somebody else here. I never said any such thing about the Beatles. You said, the condensed list should be Beatles, Stones, Floyd . . . My point was, that you can't leave Dylan out because he influenced everyone and was a game changer as far as what the lyrical depth of a pop song could contain. He opened the door for all those bands to start writing songs with substance. And, no I'm not drunk.

    Sort of. Not Exactly.

The Beatles did more in 10 years than most bands could ever hope to do. How is their career unspectacular?
What I mean is, without Dylan's influence, the Beatles songwriting, more than likely, would not have made the quantum leap that it did. They weren't exactly writing songs like Norwegian Wood from the get go. Of course, the Beatles and the Stones influenced Dylan to plug in and play rock, so it's works both ways. Like Brian Wilson and the Beatles trying to one up each other sonically and symphonically.

Yeah I agree... I don't think bands will ever reach the level of influence as any of the bands you mentioned in reality or in how they're perceived by the world. Influential artists were marketable back then and they aren't now. Like... I think Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear, and Animal Collective are all taking steps to really push the boundaries like a lot of the bands in the 60s/70s we've listed were, but there's no way you'll hear their stuff on the radio.

Even Radiohead is already over the hump. Their recent albums have become stagnate in comparison to their good stuff... but I do enjoy their more ambient music.

The Root's recent album was interesting... I feel like they're more perfecting hip-hop than attempting to revolutionizing it... so yeah, I agree with your ciriticism. I want to say the best/my favorite hip-hop albums come from things Dan the Automator produces. Handsome Boy Modeling School and Deltron 3030 are just amazing in my eyes. Those collaboration hip-hop albums do it the most for me. Blockhead too.

I'll disagree with you on Boards of Canada. The entire IDM genre pretty much came about due to their existence. A lot of my favorite bands claim them as their inspiration.

I think you have me confused with somebody else here. I never said any such thing about the Beatles. You said, the condensed list should be Beatles, Stones, Floyd . . . Sorry. I misunderstood. I see what you're saying. You're right. I never really thought about it that way... Beatles and Dylan bouncing off each other. Makes sense.

I was under the assumption Aphex Twin and the Orb had a lot more to do with IDM's development than Boards of Canada.

    Let's look at that.

You live on a ranch in Montana. The local radio played country and western and oldies, Drifters, Coasters, Olympics, Ricky Nelson etc. Mom and dad have some records...Andy Williams, Perry Como, Dione Warwick type stuff. You leave home for a college in San Frabcisco at 19.

    You meet Cindy there.

Cindy was raised in Memphis Tennessee, she grew up listening to jazz from New Orleans, primitive blues from Mississippi/Alabama/Texas/Memphis. She listened to Zydeco music and reggae music from Jamaica, she heard a lot of stuff from Nashville. Mom and dad had a lot of old records, Charlie Feathers, Jellyroll Morton, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday etc.

While you have your personel opinion concerning music, do you really have an educated mind, do you know enought about music to compare with what Cindy has experienced?

You read only westerns, while you might have your favorite western writer what do you know about literature?

"The worst era" implies judgment and hierarchical ranking. Not historical knowledge. You can never argue that someone is wrong about what they like, because they've already established for themselves that they like it.

Arguing otherwise means that either you don't understand the parameters of the thread, or that you think your knowledge and/or personal tastes supersedes that of others. Neither would surprise me, based on your posting history.

My personal feeling is that every era has included a ton of music that I've loved and found to be genuinely important, and a ton of music that is vapid and/or grating. If someone doesn't like the sound of music made before the digital age or they have a particular dislike for the sound of a large band, for example, then they may judge the 1930s to be the worst era of music, and no matter what you or I or anyone else says about Cab Calloway or the Boswell Sisters is going to make their opinion the wrong one because it is a judgment based entirely upon personal taste.

    You missed the point.

I'm talking about knowing music so you can have an educated opinion. If all you ever listen to is punk or soul or piano blues or female artists or blind artists etc etc you don't know enought to really have an opinion. You need to widen those horizons, so you can have an opinion based on a lot of music. You read three authors only, how you going to have a legit opinion concerning literature?
