Google didn't own many mobile patents tbh until they purchased Motorola.

iPhone 5 is gonna have NFC. Do you think they will patent it?
Just from googling it appears Sony, Philips and Nokia are partners in a consortium that likely owns most NFC patents, the NFC forum est 2004. I wouldn't be surprised if they patented different ways of using it and how it works with software, but who knows. Apple would likely try to patent something gesture related with NFC imo.
pretty much, makes zero sense to me.
We'll admit that we're a bit disappointed at how NFC is used, however. As with an earlier filing, the very short range wireless is kept largely to price comparisons and adding products to a list for a purchase from a store clerk later on, rather than closing the deal outright as we've seen with Google Wallet.
Yup. Google, Apple, Motorola, Microsoft etc. simply are using patents as anti-compe ive leverage, buying patents like commodities. Unfortunately, probably due to lack of understanding of technology by the Patent Office, so many idiotic and obvious (or was prior art) software patents have been granted.
Uufortunately judges and juries are probably ill-equipped and out-of-touch to tackle the validity of these patents when presented in lawsuits. Expect to see these companies go ape in their lawsuits in the near future.
yeah take this patent machine posted. request filed in 2008, just now approved.
What about Apple copying Xerox and Sony ?
