Both Eli and Big Ben were not among the best QB's in the league when they won their first SB. I'm not talking about what came later.
Dilfer was just there not to screw things up. That team was all about defense.
Since the rule changes started in 2004, here are the QBs who have won it.
Brady, BigBen, Peyton, Eli, BigBen, Brees, Rodgers, Eli.

Getting back to the Niners.
They need to keep Anthony Dixon, cat runs hard. At this stage of the game I like him better than Jacobs, he needs to be our banger.
If LaMicahel James isn't hurt (ankle?) why isn't he getting more play? Get this cat out in space, a 10.4 guy while in a Texas HS.
Kendall Hunter has that explosion it's time to start to share the starting RB play. Gore is still productive but he doesn't have that ..zooom!!!
Our D/ST will once again be among the leagues elite. Nothing to change/fix/worry about.
Alex Smith..??? Well he has never had the depth/variety of talent at wide receiver he now has. I do think he will be more effective and needs that running game meaning third and short/play action, he is not and never will be able to win games because of himself (Mannings, Brady, Brees. Rodgers he is not). He has to have a system that buts him in situations to succeed. If the D knows what's coming he will struggle. He simply isn't that talented. Just saw another QB ranking (ESPN) there's Alex is at 17, yep, middle of te pack.
With all that said, the Niners will win the weakass West (Seattle coming on) they will once again need that homefield advantage. They cannot go into NY/GB and win a playoff game there. They can beat anyone in SF. They showed that by beating the SB to be Giants then taking them into OT last season....in....SF.
All in all the Niners are one of the top teams in the league .....right now.
Ok it's time for some reality, you do not act like a monkey with a hard on after..."one"...game. You guys are showing me how little you know about things by over reacting to everything you saw today. Little ones we have how many weeks left, how many months? So ing chill and stop acting like a bunch of kids, ok?
I'm not talking about just today, I'm talking about where we left off and where we began. We (Niners) have beaten Drew Brees, took the SB to be champs into OT and should have won the game and have went into GB and beaten Aaron Rodgers. Anyone still not getting it?
Alex Smith is just fine.

Smith played well, no two ways around it. The score really shouldn't have been as close as it was, since Cobb's TD return only happened due to a block in the back.
Smith? B+ Could've got deep more often and once again held the ball for too long, too often
O-line B+ Looked good run-blocking and played better than I thought they would in the passing game
Run game A Gore and company did work
Receivers A Got open often and did really well supporting the run. Smith missed some opportunities that weren't their fault
Special Teams A+ Akers and Lee, nuff said. Lee does need to be careful not to out-kick his coverage
D-Line B+ A couple sacks and plenty of pressure. Didn't like it when Fangio went to 3 down lineman
LB's B+ Bowman is a beast. Brooks had a few big plays late. People stay away from Willis so thats why he doesn't get bigger numbers, imo (he was also curiously out quite often...wonder why)
Secondary A Incredibly solid throughout. Kept everything in front of them and made some big plays when Rodgers went deep
Nothing to disagree with there. A solid "team" performance. Now we get the Lions Sunday night, a game we should win. We do have a road and road situation which is never good having us in Jetville in that second game. That might be tricky. All in all...13-3 is very realistic.
Bottom line is we ended up one game away last year, opened up beating one of the SB favs this year. What's not to like? We've beaten all the top NFC teams in the last couple seasons.
Good to see Kendall Hunter getting more action, cat has that burst.
Alex Smith is looking better than ever (so far), that defense is monstrous. As of right now the team to beat in the NFC.
Then there's the Atlanta Falcons if they win big tomorrow night....hmmm?

Don't get too jacked up over the Seahawks. The Cowboys were in that dreaded back to back on the road role and it appears all that extra time off hurt not only them but the Giants.
Let's see how the Seahawks do on the road vs a good team.
ummm....yeahhhhh...okay
okay Avante, your week for team grades. whaddya got?
Never seen Megatron get Mega-neutralized as much as he did vs. the 49ers...that running game will not improve for the Lions and that could mean a world of hurt for Stafford if there isn't any improvement at all since there is very little beyond no. 81...49ers are the best complete team after 2 weeks I think.
they got 2 RBs coming back this year.
they could have used LeShure, watching that game, looks like power running is how to beat the 9ers.
Or kicking to Kyle Williams...
When Alex Smith is facing a REAL D, the niners won't be so complete. The NY Giants are working the kinks out and have had Amukamara out the past 2 games, but they are still the most complete team. Alex Smith is nothing more than a game managing QB who will fail like he did last January.
lakerhaterade
got
Lets see, in the last two seasons the Niners have beaten...
Steelers
Eagles
Saints
Packers
Lions-twice
Giants
Bengals
They beat the Steeles 20-3 on a Monday night, the Steelers have a defense.
What are you looking at?
as a 49er fan you should use an official team thread that wasn't started by a tbqh
eh, it doesn't bother me... I started one myself a while back but was too lazy to search for it
you inly have 1824 posts in the NFL forum tbqh
Great to see Kapernik getting some schemes, just something else defensive cordinators have to spend time on. More Kendall Hunter is a good thing.

I'd rather see Kap come in and get some snaps under center if they have to bring him in. He learns nothing by running around like a jackass in a scheme where the other team KNOWS he's not gonna pass. I like his arm but it doesn't change the fact that he's a gimmicky spread guy with little experience putting his hands securely against another mans jock, making reads that involve more than two receivers, and taking 3 quick steps and then getting the ball out quickly... He needs to learn how to be a real NFL QB in real NFL games. Wildcat gimmick won't help that process
Sons, the Niners apparently forgot that if you're giving significant playing time to two quarterbacks, you really have NO quarterbacks, tbh... further proof that Alex Smith is a below-average system QB that can only be counted on in advantageous situations, tbh....
The Amish Rifle is going to rape your D next week
