It's likely all about the Toros.

There is a rule allowing a D-league team to get up to 3 players cut from the training camp of the NBA team(s) they are affiliated to. These 3 players must of course sign a D-League contract first and another D-League team can't own his rights.

If Aguilar indeed signs with Spurs, he should be cut at the end of the training camp and end up in Austin.
