This movie is pure Americana, if you won't watch it because it's "gay" you have serious sexuality issues. If you skip it because you don't like musicals or campy stuff that's perfectly fine. I think it's fun as to watch
When I was an exchange student in germany, my high school put it on (I had never seen the movie) and it was a blast. We did all the things that people usually do at the midnight showing (dancing on stage, throwing toast onto the stage, etc). Also, it was hilarious because the dialogue was in german, but the songs were sung in english so they were all like "I'm a sweet TRANSWES E, from TRANSEXUAL, TRANSELWAYNIA"
