Setting the clock to 12 minutes and slowing the pace of the game will take you forever to complete a game and you will probably score like 500 points.
5 minutes a quarter already nets you around 80-95 points. Why would you make the game longer and slower? lol
If you leave the game on the default settings, sure.

I've had only one association going this year using the Spurs, and I'm putting up around 104 PPG using settings like this. Not yet have I seen a 500 point game. lol
The Live ones are stupid like that.
The last Live I bought (I believe it was the 2007 edition) had some sort of bug that made hook shots unmissible.
I used to torch everyone with Duncan just using the hook shot and he would score 9/10 times.
Doing that on every posession I easily reached 100+ points on the 5 minute quarters setting.
I figure if you could reach the century mark playing that short amount of time, just imagine how many more points you could score at full length.
But on the 2k ones I am like Iron Mexican.

I looked at the options to set up the controls right for me but couldn't really adjust to it.
Shooting with the right analog stick is just dumb imo. Its all about timing with it. I was always either late or just plain missed the shot. lol
i shoot with the stick unless i'm posting up with my back to the basket tbh, you just have to get used to it and you have a lot more control over your finishes in the paint if you're good at it. it's pretty hard to master though. ever played against someone who was like impossible to block, just took the contact and adjusted their layup in midair yeah they use the stick.

Open spot-up jumper/hookshot/open layup -- x button (360 version)
Shooting off dribble/shot after a post move/contested layup -- right analog stick
