I've been meaning to get into Almodovar. I quite liked Bad Education but haven't got around to watching anything else yet. Where should I start?

I'm an Almodovar fan and have seen/loved most of his work. My favorite is Volver, it's a good story with some funny twists. And if you've ever been on the fence about Penelope Cruz, she is absolutely charming and HOT in this one (but just ignore the dubbed singing).

Even though I knew Cruz wasn't really singing- I was blown away when she (acted) sang the song while her mother watched/listened - it seemed like such a passionate performance and the song itself was really powerful. Guess she is really a great actress.

Funny how I have always thought Cruz was great in her spanish speaking roles-but so so great in her english speaking roles. The accent, of course, but something else always seems to be missing when she does english speaking roles.

Taken 2:

8/10, a bit more comedy relief in this one but not distracting. Obviously not as good as the first, but still entertaining. Neeson is Neeson. I liked how they showed early on that Kim has some "post taken syndrome" and how she's dealing with it, in that conversation in the car.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is probably my favorite, so I'd suggest it as a good starting point. I've seen everything he's done since (I think) Matador, though, and though there are of course higher and lower points, there really isn't anything that comes to mind that isn't at least worth watching.

Really? 21 Jump Street is in unwatchable.

I didn't mind it, I was only half watching it and gave me a few laughs. Close to 7 was probably generous

Up in the Air (2009) - 7.5/10

Clooney has these types of roles down. A darker personality turned straight by a series of events just out of his sphere of influence. Good character development, to the point that you might actually wind up sympathizing with Clooneys character at the end (despite the fact that hes an asshat in general).

I agree with you, he is good in those roles although I never ended up sympathizing with him really. It was a good film. Can't imagine having to fire people as a job

Just saw Taken 2. Not as good as the first but I do enjoy watching Liam Neeson up, now I know where Bane learned how to face people I'd give it a 6.8/10

You know what's funny in Taken 2? Kim failed her driver's license tests in Los Angeles for God knows how many times and yet she out-drives a rampage of professional hitmen in Istanbul.

I wanted to include that in my review but didn't really want to get too negative, was going to be part of my "suspend belief" section. Granted it seemed like the only thing she couldn't pass was parallel park; but it's like "she can't drive" to the audience and then 30 min later, she is drifting, shifting gears, etc (does she even know how to drive standard?) Granted "does she know how to shoot" ... "no" ... "then drive" Yet she can toss grenades into hopefully (on the final 2 throws) unpopulated areas, lol

oh I know, just with the first one it was shown that the parking garage had no one around; the other 2 tosses, you just have to assume she checks, before throwing.

If they ever make a 3rd, they will have to get his CIA colleague more involved.

Considering the open possibility that the sons of the mafia leader are still around (referenced before the mafia leader was pwned), there might be a sequel in the works. But I totally agree with you. This sequel felt watered down. The producers of this installment should have went out with a bang.

Sometimes film franchises don't know when to stop (Saw series) but I guess if they are making money why stop. Another Taken would make money

I was never really sold on the first Taken. Love Liam Neeson, just not crazy about this Taken franchise like so many people are. I hate that it's PG-13 too. I went with my bro for the heck of it.
