    Pusher...

I'll bet you are too young to remember the Carter/Reagan years.

I was too young to pay real attention to politics during the Reagan years, but I don't really see what that has to do with the fact that he started us down the path of debt while pimping similar economic policy as Governor Romney.

Well, I will suggest you have no room to badmouth the decision of the times. I joined the army when Reagan was president. The cold war was real. We won the cold war because of his policies.

I think you are underestimating the role that Gobachev played by departing from his predecessors in ending the cold war. Regardless, KAL's point was not the military increase, but the fact that the increases went unpaid.

right there......the GOP didn't seem to mind when they were funding the expansion of medicade, tax cuts for the rich and two or more global wars...

....Obama tries funding a medical plan which cuts as much as it increases and wingnuts have an aneurism...

The relationship between Reagan pimping star wars, the B-1 and the waxahachie super collider and conflating it to the fall of the Soviet Union is laughable. The USSR collapsed but you are essentially saying that communism would've worked if not for our intervention? They had been overspending militarily for decades at that point. They were having to import food. They had a larger army and nuclear arsenal than us already. But the infrastructure that Stalin's slave labor force had built in the 40s and 50s had deteriorated and was not ever rebuilt. This is something from history we should have learned from. Our infrastructure has gone to .

Oil prices dropped and they collapsed under their own weight. they could no longer fund their satellite despots and they lost power. Acting like Reagan 'caused' that is stupid. One thing his rhetoric did do was help create the animosity that we see today with his 'evil empire' bull . Parallels can drawn with that and Romney's alienating rhetoric with China.

You sure as did not take any part in the decisions of those times but your little myopic viewpoint is mired in the stupidity that you personify. I trust history books over stupid any day and twice on Fridays.

I agree with you somewhat. Yes, we outspent the USSR and because of that, it no longer exists as before. I also agree that today, politicians do not realize they are spending us into the way of the USSR's collapse. We had reduced the military and military spending after the USSR collapsed. We increased it again after 9/11. Time to reduce it again. Why isn't Obama doing that?

Not only that, obama is decreasing military spending, the GOP is pissed because they can't attack him for that because Obama used a jedi-mind-trick to get them to agree to cuts...

He's decreasing the spending by killing indiscriminately with drones, rather than with soldiers on the ground. Sioldiers can determine enemy from noncombatant. Notice he isn't decreasing spending by much though. Why doesn't he just end our involvement?

Well, Reagan did the right thing....he let Paul Volkner run the economy....(although, all things being equal, Volker probably got Carter fired)

the USSR just broke apart by itself as the natural rule intended imho. although gorbache played an important role in ending the cold war in the early 90s, he would've never managed so if it was in the 60s or 70s. USSR had been struggling for years before its eventual demise and an economy wouldn't sustain the way they did. guys like reagon and gorbachev just did what they had to do in their positions at that time, and it's historical idealism to say the cold war was ended by one man or two men's power imho

Yes, but the difference was that they could not afford the cost of maintaining the cold war with us!

    We broke them!

Now our overzealous attempts to fight terrorism is going to help break us.

"We won the cold war because of his policies."

WC spreading the St Ronnie legendary LIE.

USSR collapsed internally, blew its treasure and blood in Afghanistan, lost US$100Bs in hard currency when the oil price collapsed post-Khomeini, and not because of diseased, self-enriching 1%er conman St Ronnie, who was way to the LEFT of today's Repug/tea bagger crazies.

St Ronnie's build up was nothing but a taxpayer-wealth-sucking exercise trumped up by MIC knowing the USSR was a total fake, CIA-fabricated fake to justify the build up.

Missile Shield Star Wars! Where was waste-collector Coburn/OK when we needed him?

We spent more money than the communists so they fell. But if we spend as much as the communists we will fall?

Funny how both sides want to look back to the past and blame each others presidents.

There is enough fault to go around for both sides.

Fact is, we have a ing problem and it's time to deal with it.

And the point of the cartoon is that a 20% across the board tax cut is not going to address the " ing problem" but only exacerbate it. Now go pull that lever for Romney.

You may feel you have the freedom of a protest vote as you live in Texas, but you're definitely hoping he wins. Tell me CC, who would you be voting for if you lived in Ohio?
