It will basically be 2005-2007 Lakers with KoMe chasing away all the good players away like hes done with Shaq, Malone, Payton, etc
2014 will be interesting indeed. A resigned Howard will be 28 and in his prime. Nash will be an expiring contract, possibly backing up some young stud named John Wall. And from the looks of it, the Lakers will have a few FA options to pair with Howard.
People who doubt that Howard will sign a max deal with LA are fooling themselves. The Lakers are in win now mode at all costs (literally). Getting Nash, like their attempt to pickup CP3 last year was pure genius in that they knew Howard would want to play with an elite PG after years of Jameer Nelson. So even after unloading our all star center to get him, we were able to retain Pau too? Pure genius.
Now with Howard anchoring the Lakers, now, and the future is bright with plenty of opportunities to sustain le runs because other FAs will want to play alongside him. Peep these snippets from Kevin Ding:
"We purposely ended all contracts that year," Buss said. "I can't talk about Kobe (Bryant), but this is what he signed till. So basically we put everything to that, and we want to make a big splash in the free-agent market if we get to that spot. So we designed the contracts and the players and our future all around that."Yeah, depending on the free agents that year," Buss said. "We would basically, money-wise, be able to sign the top free agent – maybe even two. I don't know the numbers exactly, because we're not privy to what the cap is and how much room we have, but it's going to be close to two of the top free agents that year."
It's not just all eggs in James' basket, as other stars such as James' Miami teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and New York's Carmelo Anthony could be free agents in 2014. Other big-name players who could be unsigned then (besides Bryant and Pau Gasol) are Dirk Nowitzki, Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, John Wall, Danny Granger, Luol Deng, Rudy Gay, Andre Iguodala, Monta Ellis and Andrea Bargnani.
The Lakers' scenario could be put on a hold a year also if James doesn't opt out of his Heat contract in 2014. He, Wade and Bosh all have opportunities to opt out in 2015 again before their contracts expire in 2016. Some potential 2015 free agents are Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo, Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kyrie Irving, Tony Parker and Anthony.Buss had his eye on James as far back in 2005, when the Lakers were structuring the payroll for the possibility that James, Yao Ming and Stoudemire would not re-sign with their teams before 2007 free agency. Those scenarios didn't come to pass, but the Lakers are the masters when it comes to figuring out ways to cycle and recycle toward les.KEVIN DING is the best Laker beat writer bar none. If John Wall replaces Nash in 2014, or Kyrie Irving in 2015,"With Dwight Howard now, the future's so bright," Buss said. "If he re-signs with us, the future is so bright that now we can start looking into the three, four or five years from now and say, 'OK, we're again going toward championships.' "
Funny how they have been after LBJ since 2005. Greedy bas s.![]()
Lkr suddenly hard for LeBron after hating on him viciously for years
Please. The Lakers don't need LeBron. If we do get him, good. If we don't, that's good too. But it would be foolish for our FO to not go after him if he can be had. It's just good business.
But let me get this straight, all of the potential FAs listed in that article, you see the name LeBron and log on to try to troll me? Is det how this works? How about you refute the validity of the article instead of following me from thread to thread with your limp "Clipper Nation" schtick?![]()
I'm surprised at Mitch not trading for KLove tbh...
bron dude turned down the bigger $ offered by cleveland cuz he wanna join a winning team, but ain't doing it one more time and there ain't any other team in the league that's more likely to win ships than us heat in the foreseeable future IMHO
lebron gotta tax breaks when he move ta Florida so he not lose dat much. I think he make same in Florida or ohio after tax
still considering nash an elite pg?
Yes, I still do. This next game will remind you guys of what he can do. Remember, we're starting the 60th pick in the draft en route to our 0-5 preseason start (not that it really matters as we are breaking in a new offense again). But these next two games we should see all 5 starters on the court for the first other than practices and scrimmages. During the time he is out there with the starters we'll be able to see what every Laker fan has been raving about when we learned he was joining the Lakers.![]()
Is this Harlem?
bandwagoning the littler brother
got
Let me guess, you been a long time Laker fan and just been lurking this whole time?
Been a fan for over 10 years
What about you homie?
10 years and suddenly after lurking long enough to know who Harlem is, the urge to join finally hits. Dwight joining the Lakers had nothing to do with, right D12?
