No doubt, but I think they're streching it...I expected a price of $249 tbqh. Don't see why they're comparing to the Nexus 7 going for $199 (will the upcoming refresh move the 16GB to this price?).

it's time for mobile data to get less ridiculously expensive then. I didn't even consider an LTE iPad tbh. The AT&T rep (who was awesome and refunded my sister's upgrade fee without me even asking) tried to lead me around to a Mobile Share plan, but I already looked at the $'s and it doesn't make sense even with 3 smartphones on the plan.
I've got 5 on my plan and it makes even less sense tbh. We're all grandfathered in iPhone exes...which has been the only worthwhile thing about owning an iPhone for me.

In a legal filing with the US International Trade Commission, Apple has revealed that the US Department of Justice is investigating Samsung over its alleged use of FRAND patents to harm compe ion. An investigation was hinted at back in June in a Bloomberg report, and Dow Jones reports today that the DOJ has been working on the probe for several months. The agency's interest in investigating FRAND-related matters, however, is not a surprise: after approving Motorola's merger with Google earlier this year, the DOJ said that it will be on guard against improper use of essential patents in the mobile industry and "will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action" against violators.
Apple's filing with the ITC is the latest in its ongoing dispute with Samsung over the company's use of its 3G patents: Apple (and others) have raised concern with Samsung's use of standards essential patents to harm compe ors. Samsung was targeted back in January by an EU an rust investigation over the company's unfair use of FRAND patents against compe ors. Earlier this year, Samsung lost its cast against Apple, when a jury ruled that none of the iPhone manufacturer's devices infringe Samsung's 3G networking patents. The Department of Justice hasn't confirmed the investigation yet, and it's not clear what "appropriate enforcement action" it might use against FRAND violators, but Samsung may have more hurdles ahead if it wants to keep lobbying 3G patent claims at compe ors.
I wouldn't mind if they threw out every ing patent by these companies that have nothing to do with innovation, whether 3G patents or rounded edges. It's taken these idiots long enough to step in.

"The USPTO lowered the bar again on Tuesday, granting U.S. Patent No. 8,296,373 to four Facebook inventors for Automatically Managing Objectionable Behavior in a Web-based Social Network, essentially warning users or suspending their accounts when their poking, friend requesting, and wall posting is deemed annoying. From the patent: 'Actions by a user exceeding the threshold may trigger the violation module 240 to take an action. For example, the point 360, which may represent fifty occurrences of an action in a five hour period, does not violate any of the policies as illustrated. However, the point 350, which represents fifty occurrences in a two hour period, violates the poke threshold 330 and the wall post threshold 340. Thus, if point 350 represents a user's actions of either poking or wall posting, then the policy is violated.'"
That's really, really sad.

Last week we told you guys about Samsung adding the iPhone 5 to their countersuit claims against Apple and during a hearing with U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul S. Grewal today, it seems Apple is following suit… and then some. Look out, folks. This could get ugly.
As reported by Bloomberg, the judge was presented with Apple’s argument on why 17 devices (including the Galaxy Note 10.1) should be added to the their second patent infringement case against Samsung. Apple’s problem with these devices? They’re all compatible with a stylus (even though they don’t all ship with one).
The Galaxy Nexus, however, is a different story. Apple was clear that the Galaxy Nexus should also be added to the suit simply because it’s running “the Jelly Bean operating system.” Nothing more. Nothing less. If you think that sounds like a slippery slope, leaving Apple to add more Jelly Bean devices to their suit, Samsung felt the same way and argued that point to the judge. Apple however, promised it would only target the Galaxy Nexus and that no further J-Bean devices would be added into the mix. They pinky swore so, you gotta believe them.
Samsung also tried to ague that Apple waited too long to include the Galaxy Nexus in their latest claim, with Apple maintaining they were only waiting for all carrier variants of the Nexus to receive Jelly Bean. Something that took longer than expected thanks to Sprint and Verizon slower update process.
You may remember Apple’s first attempts at going after the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 didn’t end too well for them. The tablet was one of few devices cleared from infringing on Apple’s design patents. It seems like the Galaxy Note 10.1 will share the same fate as it’s largely the same device, only with a handy built in stylus. But, Apple has something else in store for the stylus wielding tablet. Exactly what, we can’t be sure. What we do know is by going after Jelly Bean, it’s finally clear to the whole world that Apple’s real problem is, and always has been, with Google and their mobile OS.
Today’s hearing took place in the same federal court in San Jose where Apple won their first patent case against Samsung back in August. One that left Samsung with $1.4 billion in damages. As the internet well knows, you should never feed a troll and the same goes for patent trolls. It only makes them stronger.
Judge Grewal wasn’t quick to issue a ruling just yet, scheduling the trial for a 2014 date. Apparently, he wanted to deny both sides their requests but knew it would only cause a new round of lawsuits to spring forth. Sounds like he knows Apple’s reputation all too well.

Local police in the city of Mildura, Australia, have been forced to warn motorists of the inaccuracies contained within Apple's Maps app for iOS 6. Maps lists Mildura in the middle of Murray-Sunset National Park, about 70km away from where it should be, and the police have had to rescue motorists that ended up in the wrong place — some stranded without food or water for 24 hours. Others were forced to walk "long distances through dangerous terrain" in order to get phone reception; since temperatures can reach up to 46° Celsius (115° Fahrenheit), the police have called it a "potentially life-threatening issue."
The shortcomings of Apple Maps are well-do ented, and it's certainly not the first time mapping solutions have caused problems for hapless drivers. Still, the incident highlights that Apple's botched rollout could have more serious consequences than a mangled 3D model of the Brooklyn Bridge, particularly outside the US where data is even less comprehensive and accurate. Tim Cook recently said he's putting "the weight of the company behind" fixing the Maps app; Victoria Police are happy to help, too, and have notified Apple of the Mildura matter.
Using any map app in rural Australia just sounds like an awful idea.
