kudos on your bravado!
Any one taken one during bow season? I took a doe over the weekend (along with a hog and a turkey). I can imagine at least a couple of you hunt, so lets hear what you got or see some pics if you're comfortable with that.
kudos on your bravado!
It was challenging, the Turkey was a maneater.
I shot an 80# sow with my bow a couple of months ago but I'm not shooting deer at my place...we had a fence neighbor in the past that leased to guys that shot anything that moved...they gave it up when the county went to antler restriction last year and we all (me and 3 other neighbors) agreed to give the deer a rest for a couple of years and let the herd recover.
Don't know anything about hunting.....what is an antler restriction?
Certain counties have antler restriction, normally like 13" or so far outside the ears. Otherwise people shoot anything and you don't get a decent buck population.
Went deer hunting once--but only managed to bag a few quail and doves. I have done the wild boar thing on Catalina Island and out in the middle of California, but haven't ever came close to bagging a deer. Maybe one day...I do prefer fishing though.
I spent 10 years in alaska and hunted mostly in the Fogneck Island just out of Kodiak AK.. We were dropped off by a seaplane and survived 7 to 10 days with a 70 lb backback until the pilot could land and pick us up ....depends on the weather when he come after us and no communication at all .Most white tails there fiield dressed close to 185/200 lbs...big deer but never had the balls to go after the kodiak or grizzelys . I used a 7mag Remmington and colt python 357 for back up and both of mine weapons where the smallest in our group of four guys that did a annual hunt . They had transfered 300 texicans to start up the prudhoe bay field and first thing we asked for was a deer lease and felt like fools because There are no leases to sign up due to that 90 per cent of the state is federal land and if you fly in you must wiat 24 hours to shoot anything ? Back in thday when i was young and dumb . Deer hanging 100 yards from our camp and bear that normally hung out in the higer part of the island
My dad has a place near Three Rivers and he said his herd is doing very well, with a few glimpses of some huge bucks already. He said dove hunting was crap this year but the deer season is already looking great.
How could anyone kill a deer unless it really was about eating to survive?
I ask the same question to people who are fat as and let their poor child starve because they make dumbass sports bets.
This thread is about deer hunting/killing. Don't be a dumbass moron and go off in another direction, respect the OP. Respect the thread slick, got it, good!
Sorry DMC, as ya know....kids.
Usually with a gun.
sons its 2012 ... time to grow up.
lol white men and their "hunting". sons it doesn't add inches to your by sitting in a tree like a coward and killing an animal.
I could never kill an animal just for the of it, that sucks!
It depends on shot placement mostly. Shot selection is important (meaning when to shoot) but placement, I've found, is the biggest factor. So with a good 2 or 3 bladed broadhead, A compound bow (or a recurve or even a longbow or self bow), you should be able to kill one up to 60 yards. I wouldn't take a shot at one over about 30 yards however due to them jumping the string and causing a misplaced hit or just a miss. With a rifle, you can just bust a shoulder and down it goes. You might have to finish it off by cutting the throat or putting one in it's head (make sure you use a centerfire cartridge, rimfires are illegal even for finishing one off).
So as you can see, it's not technically hard to kill one. It's the hunt that's the harder part. Bowhunting is more challenging, a lot more to consider, but overall it's just a cow that's a bit jumpier.
Son, that's how you got here.
Anyhow, only a neanderthal would sit in a tree to hunt a deer. I make my own ghille suits and sit right out in the open. They never notice, and I can actually touch one with an arrow if they were close enough.
That's alpha right there. Next time, see if you can stick a clown nose on one.
I did that to your mother but then she's a pig, not a game animal.
So you get a nut killing a harmless creature that has no idea what's going on? Talk about a stud, wow! That's suppose to be some sort of challenge?
I'm looking at the fish in the aquarium, what a challenge it would be to take out my pocketnife and kill a few fish. Then head off to the parrot and stab it, wow what a rush!
I am cool with fishing however.
big whoop. like that's a ing accomplishment.
...harmless until overpopulation has them wandering in the freeways by the hundreds. Like it or not, hunting is necessary.
son, in order for you to eat someone went out and killed that animal just like a hunter would. except it's entire existence up until that point was much worse than the life of one in the wild, penned up in captivity and in ty cramped living conditions. just because you don't have the balls or ability to go out and feed yourself doesn't mean that it's a bad thing to do.
son I'm talking about all the bag white boys who brag about hunting as if it takes talent or special skills in order to wake up at 3am and sit in a deer stand. now if you're out there on foot, with a bow and arrow or something ... then I'll give you some props, but 90% of hunters are cowards about it. I'm also referring to those who consider it a game or a sport rather than a source of food.
