Dude Shaq was putting up 35/15 (and on some nights 38/20) while being triple teamed. Kobe can have his last two rings as the leader/closer, but Shaq was the defacto top dog for those first three.
That was pure dominance. It's amazing to think that without Duncan, Shaq would have had 6 rings.

You are partially right. Shaq put up monster numbers. However, in the 4th quarter of tight games, 9 times out of 10 Kobe was the one that brought us home. Especially against TD/Robinson led Spur teams. Do you disagree?

I agree, but every one was too busy double & triple teaming Shaq. Moreover, you had Kobe go up against Terry Porter, Sean ****** and a bunch of other scrubs. It wasn't until 2002-2003 season that Tim had a decent supporting cast. More importantly, we had Bowen who could keep Kobe in check and then Tim dominated.
We (including Pop and the rest of the league) were clueless in guarding Shaq those years. The Lakers had a big man who had no skill set whatsoever bulldozing through defenses across the league. Not a pretty site for the rest of the league.

Spurs actually did a very good job guarding Shaq, as good as you could do back then, but that allowed Kobe to go off because of it. They were a great 1-2 punch until they ruined it by turning on each other.
unfair to say shaq had no skill set imho. although its true that couldn't hit on the FT line, his low-post game was excellent and he also scored alot from hooks and jumpers near the basket besides his trademark dunks. there've been many big nigs who also possess size & strength but have the first touch of a table leg, they're the examples of inept bigs that you're looking for imho
Not true. Not many players would score if double or triple teamed. Pop made sure Shaq wouldn't get the ball in the post.
The shooters playing alongside Shaq had open looks all day and Kobe was the only player who could create his own shots, so he let it fly.
In 2002-2003, David, Willis & Tim were guarding Shaq straight up (his post prime btw), so the shooters (Kobe included) the bed when Manu, SJ & TP were guarding their men. Sactown had decent success by throwing Divac at Shaq, but he was fouling out by the third quarter.
Only the Spurs and the Rockets beat a prime Shaq and they both had a dominant big man.
I was a little harsh tbh, but his low post game was far from excellent and it was ugly as . He had no footwork and after he started gaining weight, he had none. His baby hooks were excellent though.
