I don't shoot anything under 8 and at least 3 years old (yes I can tell). I might take a doe but that's because the TPW has determined that the ratio of doe to buck is unbalanced and the result is that the 5+ million whitetail deer in Texas will suffer genetically and decline in numbers due to chronic wasting disease that affects large unmanaged herds, therefore the quality of life for the 4 point buck you mentioned will be that he's malnurished and likely dies before he sees 3 years of life.
Without the conservationist, mostly hunters who feed and manage deer herds year round, there would be a much worse situation in Texas as far as the whitetail is concerned. You can strawman it intoa redneck hitting a deer with a beer bottle all you like, that's not what's happening. Sure there are idiots who road shoot deer and just leave them, but by and large hunters are pay a ton of money for leases, protiens, food plots and year around corn and access to water, not to mention controlling predator populations which greatly improves the quality of wildlife in this state. The same is true for the fisheries. It's not the cry baby liberals who PETA the out of the rest of us about cosmetic nuances who make it work, it's those who work all year, maybe hunt 3 months of that and then maybe take 1 or 2 deer from a herd of hundreds (often not the best genetics as culling is huge in this state) that make it work.
