I watched the out of it in the 90s, almost every race when he was with Ferrari. I eventually stopped about 10 years ago but it's still fun to watch. much better than that redneck nascar gotry
Some people are making a killing just renting out rooms to the visitors. My inlaws are making 500 a night for their casita, and had it out all week and weekend. Nothing wrong with that, but it was crazy Friday night when I landed on my return flight from Denver. The airport was full of race fans even around midnight.
the only thing good with nascar is their engines don't combust petrol, but alcohol instead so they're supposedly preferred by most environmentalists tbh
Taxpayers hardly paid for it and a ton of local contractors made boat loads of money off the construction of it as well as made a ton of jobs building it......and forget about the tourism money it brought in....that place was a gold mine for the city of Austin, the state of Texas, and a bunch of locals that rented out their houses.
Anyone that is still opposed to it is believing everything they read on the Internet and is a sucker not going along with it.....total success for everyone involved!

Ok, that was just the amount from the state event fund this year -- it's actually a quarter billion over 10 years.. That's a start.

But they plan on using profit from the race to pay next years "installment" and then keep doing just that each year....don't get me wrong here, I understand that govt promises about where certain money goes doesn't always happen but if they do what they say they're gonna then it won't be a problem.
Furthermore, if you knew all of this, why did you ask?
Finally, why is everyone against small businesses that made a boat load of money on the construction f the track and created a 1,000 jobs (albeit temporary ones)?

When you say they plan on using the profit, who are you talking about? I hadn't heard of this plan and I'm not sure how it would work.
I know they have to pay 25 million per year to the F1 organization just for the privilege of hosting f1 events.

So there's really no telling what would go back into the fund at this point.
I just have trouble with the idea of subsidizing the risk of billionaires. From tech companies to F1 races to the Spurs to toll roads to medical corporations. I don't know where it's supposed to stop.

ROME (AP) — Formula One's governing body said Thursday that it will explain to Ferrari why it did not penalize Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel for an overtaking maneuver in the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.
FIA believes there is no cause for Ferrari to lodge an appeal that, if successful, would strip Vettel of the F1 le and give it to Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso.
Video footage from Sunday's Brazilian GP appears to show that Vettel passed Jean-Eric Vergne's Toro Rosso's while a yellow caution light was on.
If a rules breach were proven, Vettel would be hit with a 20-second penalty, which would move him from sixth place to eighth in the race and give Alonso the F1 le by one point.
"The incident wasn't reported to stewards in the first place because it didn't seem like there was a need to report it at the time," Norman Howell, the director of communications for the International Automobile Federation (FIA), told The Associated Press. "Now that Ferrari has sent us a letter asking for an explanation we will give it to them."
One of the videos was taken from a camera on Vettel's car.
"Ferrari has asked, via a letter, an explanation from the FIA over VET's pass of VER on lap 4 of the Brazilian GP," the Italian team said in a Twitter post Thursday.
Alonso finished second in the race at Interlagos, but Vettel's sixth place was enough to give him his third straight season le by three points. The 25-year-old German became F1's youngest three-time champion.
Should Alonso be awarded the le, he would become a three-time champion.
"We're looking at the video. We have until tomorrow to file an appeal," Ferrari spokesman Luca Colajanni told The AP.
If Ferrari does appeal, the case would then be considered by the four Brazilian GP stewards. After an eventual decision, each side can appeal to the FIA appeals court, with a final decision likely before the F1 awards ceremony in Istanbul on Dec. 7.
Vettel appeared to be in big trouble when he was bumped shortly after the start of the race and spun. He dropped to last place before he could turn his car around and began to chase the leaders. He steadily worked his way up the field despite a slightly damaged car and no radio communication.
It was during Vettel's climb back through the field that the alleged illegal overtake of Vergne occurred.
When there is a yellow caution flag or light, it signals danger on the track and drivers must slow down and not overtake. If a driver does overtake, he is penalized with a drive-thru or a 20-second penalty in the final results if the infraction is discovered after the race is over.
