Oh my God, what an amazing cast.
Cannot wait!
So far it looks like it might be between Lincoln and End of Watch so far, at the Oscars. The Master just didn't do it for me.
Very excited.
What an outstanding movie. Really, truly engaging and just incredible all around.
I haven't seen it yet. Is DDL able to really shine? Best actor maybe? Damn, can't wait.
Good stuff, did you find it too sentimental, at all? Also, how we're the battle scenes? Can't wait to see it this weekend
There wasn't really battle scenes. The war was definitely a big part of the movie, but not with regards to war scenes. It was more about the issues/challenges presented by the war with regards to back door politicking. I did not feel it was too sentimental but very inspiring.
^^^^^^^^^^^^
Loved it. Tommy Lee Jones stole the show, imo
Between his snarky, dry delivery and DDL's depth it made for the perfect duo. Great movie all around.
In thinking about it again, this was such a good movie. I don't agree that TLJ stole the show although I did think he did a wonderful job. There were a lot of great moments and my favorite was probably that scene with DDL & TLJ where Lincoln is talking about what's the importance of knowing true North if you are only going to sink in the swamps on the way there. Great, great scene.
I'll be checking this out.
Once it hits RedBox.
I'm so glad this movie didn't focus on Lincoln's bio, but rather the one month in 1865 that changed US history. Liam Neeson was the front runner to portray Lincoln, no way, no how. There isn't anyone other than DDL to portray Lincoln. BTW, I wasn't impressed with Sally Field's performance.![]()
I totally disagree. Neeson would have been great as he too has a great Lincoln voice and jaw. There are others too who could have played the part it is just DDL's performance is the one you can relate too.
Finally saw this. Pretty underwhelming, IMO. Far too many gimmicky dramatic devices (the way some of the congressmen voted "aye" after long dramatic pauses, the way characters kept giving updates on how many votes were needed for the amendment to pass but then seemed to have lost count by the end in order to maintain a few extra seconds of suspense, the way everyone seemed to look at Lincoln in his last scene as if they knew it was the last time they'd ever see him). And I just didn't think Daniel Day Lewis was that exceptional. Pretty average performance that, at times, reminded me of an extended SNL sketch.
I did like Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, and John Hawkes. I also liked the way they (seemingly) named every congressman and his vote, until I found out that apparently that wasn't a 100% accurate account of the votes cast anyway. Why not use the actual names and votes?
Highly forgettable Oscar bait. C+
snoozefest
the only reason this movie is getting nominations is because Spielberg directed it and Daniel Day-Lewis makes his once every 4-6 years appearance. Daniel Day-Lewis was solid as usual, but I don't think he deserves an Oscar for this role. if anything the makeup and wardrobe crew deserve most of the credit.
Definitely overrated, it will be damn shame if it wins. I'm probably gonna be rooting for Silver Linings Playbook
