I'm sure their sales took a hit when they started charging tax. This seems like a nice way to alleviate that.

I buy tons of on amazon personally and for my company. , last week I bought like norton sand paper rolls and 300w quartz light bulbs on amazon. UPS is cheap on the stuff I can't get free shipping on as opposed to sending a $25 an hour employee to Home depot. The price is better and the convenience factor (if you have your together and order ahead) is tons better than brick and mortar stores.

Glad to know the distribution jobs will be local.

Yep, but they only charge state sales tax. We can still say screw prek4sa!

Yeah, no . I was resigned to Obama getting elected but THAT prek4sa still pisses me off. Castro could spend all they wanted to campaign for it but there was no "against" funding for ads and signs. I just kept hoping that enough people were paying attention to realize what a ed up boondoggle that was but I was obviously wrong.

I've been a prime member for 5 years but I'm canceling my membership next month. Now that Texas is taxed I would rather just pick up what I want from a local store. Plus I hate getting new release games past 6pm.

Pretty sure in the deal Amazon worked out with the state of Texas that Amazon agreed to start collecting sales tax and promised to build a distribution center in Texas.

I still use it quite a bit. Even if I have to pay sales tax, I sit at my computer and order it; select free shipping; and it shows up on my doorstep. I would have to pay sales tax if I bought it here, and this way I save money on gas, plus my time.

It amazes me how fast they can ship something. I ordered some iphone accessories yesterday and ten minutes later got a email notice they had shipped.

I ordered a Kindle Fire on Monday and got it Wednesday. No free shipping though. It costs me like $7.00 and what was odd is that 2 day shipping was much more and would have gotten here on same day.

Amazon is pretty much the only place I can find good technical books. LOL going to the UTSA bookstore to get their dumbed-down remedial texts.

The only times I ever purchase online is when I cannot find what I want in a store.

Why do you guys want to reduce retail jobs in your community?

That is even bigger than the Wal Mart distribution center in San Marcos.

1.2 million is almost 28 acres under one roof.
. That is huge. The building I work in is only 4.4 acres.

You should check out Powells Book Store. It's a local business here in Portland. They have a separate building filled with technical books. At least you would be supporting a local business instead of a corporate en y.

I checked it, but Amazon is generally a lot cheaper, has a much better selection, and they donate a portion of the money I pay to MIT OpenCourseWare (my favorite charity) if I go to the site from MIT's (my price is still the same).

They don't actually ship. It just gets registered to ship. That's how they get their shipping rates low. They fill up a truck then actually ship it.

ing amazon charges me tax now, so that's a bummer, but not a deal breaker on many things.

What pisses me off is seeing the Sennheiser HD650's for $430 today when I bought them for $475 on Cyber Monday, and that was supposed to be a deal. ers.

Online retailer Amazon may have broken an rust laws in Germany by banning third-party traders from selling their products cheaper elsewhere, officials said Wednesday.
The probe comes days after Amazon faced criticism in Germany over the alleged mistreatment of temporary workers and in the wake of accusations in the U.K. that it's been avoiding paying tax.
The Seattle-based company has recently been dealing with the fallout from a German television do entary which alleged that some of its temporary workers in the country faced intimidation by security guards, random searches and constant pressure to increase their performance.
Like I said earlier in this thread, it's an awful company. Nothing will be done about it stateside, however, because $11 an hour is a "good" job in this ty economy.
