Might have to finally build a computer to play this. Granted, I didn't like the original Far Cry as it felt too much of a tech demo for me at the time, but the third one is supposedly really good.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012...single-player/What I am saying is, that despite the incongruity of the leaf mission, and despite some of the other design woes which I will outline later – despite, even, the bizarre mystic subplot – this is a marvellous game which understands how and why open world games are thrilling. It’s also layered in skill trees, and a (largely superfluous) inventory, to make this game feel like it has a lot more going on than some other open-world shooters we could mention. The result is a little Skyrim-with-guns, yes, but in Skyrim I never caused two bandit jeeps to crash into each other, only to set fire to half of the jeep passengers with the flamethrower, and watch the other half be eaten alive by giant lizards. No, sir.
Far Cry 3 has kept me smiling. , it kept me up all night. And it’s been a while since a game has done that. [/Tired old man.]
It's pretty good... shades of Just Cause 2 in a FPS
I like this game's hunting gameplay, something open world games have been using more often lately. But this game actually lets you use the animals you hunt to improve your inventory, which is great.
Agreed, but at the same time, there's no reason why the new wallet should be made of crocodile skin, tbh... the specific requirements is what makes it stupid
I just built a new rig, and got this game for free with my video card purchase. Not bad for a card that was $80 cheaper on black friday anyway. It's pretty sweet -- I made a fragbox, and I've been impressed at what it can handle thus far.
if i can find some funds for it im gona build myself a gaming pc. games are always cheap, the games superior and i can play my fav game team fortress 2.
around how much did you guys pay for your gaming rig?
You can build a really solid rig right now for $800. Less than that if you don't want shiny components/etc and are willing to wait for some good deals.
My portable rig was $600 and it runs every game on high, except Metro 2033 which I haven't installed yet.
just bought it can't really play it till wednesday, what are the impression so far?
It's incredible
Open world, RPG elements, massiveley addictive
Best comparison I've seen is, "Skyrim with guns"
that's exactly why I started this thread. I made the same connection... it just needs a grappling hook mod and we're set.
Still haven't played it but I heard it falls apart towards the middle and the end as far as story/characters are concerned which is disappointing since I hear it starts out really great.
Story? I've played 3 main thread missions but have close to 10 hours invested. Imo, it's not the story that makes this game but rather the world itself. Tons of side missions and running around murdering people, as well as leveling your character and getting your load-out correct. Mostly what I've been doing is taking out checkpoints and powering up radio towers. I have 6 skill points that I can't even use because I haven't done enough mission's yet.
Vehicles in this one are a million times better than FC2. Those Health drop side quests are awesome
I've been playing for about a week now, and I unlocked the last island yesterday... I'm pacing the story by liberating camps and what not... it's a fairly fun game... more FPS than Just Cause 2, but there's some exploration stuff there just like it...
Late to the party here...
I'm at 50% completion and i really dig this game. "Skyrim w/guns" is a decent analogy.
I'm a sucker for stealth combat with good AI. Add to that the open world, side missions, collectables, hang gliding and all the big bang fun and i'm hooked.
Liberating compounds by releasing caged vicious animals is a riot. " ...this....heat!"
Farcry is not "skyrim with guns" you'll realize this the more you play through it. Gets stale real quick. It does show that Arrows work in a modern setting, hopefully Bethesda sees it and puts them in the new Fallout
Having beaten it, I'll admit that Skyrim with guns is a bit of a stretch...Just not enough depth and replayability to make that a fair statement. However, I do find myself going back just to kill people in new and interesting ways.
Think my next playthrough will be done without clearing any checkpoints until I've completed the main storyline. The random firefights are mad fun as you travel around and make things far more challenging
Far Cry 3 > Skyrim for me, because the combat is so much better and organic. Skyrim is so hunt and fetch that it got stale for me pretty quickly.
The multiplayer is absolute garbage to me which is unfortunate Im not so big on single player games I don't have enough patience.
