If they're not good shots? Absolutely. I'd rather have a layup attempt every time.
How can an open 3 not be a good shot for a 40% shooter?

Because no matter the percentage, it's still a shot from 25 feet out. A really good shooter, under the best of cir stances, getting three point shots in the rhythm of the game, hits them at 40 %. Any shooter under decent cir stances getting a layup hits at 90% and has a chance to draw a foul or set up a teammate for an open shot or a putback.

The Grizzlies played their usual horrible 3 point defense against the Spurs, but the Spurs did not make the Grizzlies pay for it until the fourth quarter.
Too many stupid turnovers.
Zach Randolph as well as alot of the Grizzlies couldn't make shots close to the basket.
Jerryd Bayless' shot at the end of regulation.
As I said last season, a double digit lead is never safe when the Grizzlies have it.
