Matt Bonner's shot mechanic and style is more amenable to the 3 point shooting contest than Gary Neal's shot, tbh. Plus, Bonner was robbed of a spot last season.
How does one get an invite ?
Gary Neal sure earned it tonight after the rockets game

true but who makes the call ? stern? we might as well say goodbye to any spur being invited
Tim Duncan should be invited. Shooting 66% from 3?
Matt Bonner should be in the Slam Dunk contest.
I'd be pretty damn surprised if any Spur gets invited. In previous years, Bonner has lead the league in 3 point field goal %, and never been invited....
I think Manu should have been in the dunk contest at least once in his early years.
Even after today's game, he's shooting 36.8% from beyond the arc. Give me a break.
Enough with the Neal hate, man. Sheer quan y of threes made could get Neal into the compe ion.
Bonner should make the three point compe ion as well. As timvp has said, in an open gym, Bonner may be the greatest shooter in the NBA.
In all seriousness, if Bonner couldn't make the contest over the last few years, no Spur will be able to, and certainly not one that shoots under 37% from long distance.
Blame Stern for that. Damn you, Stern.
It's a popularity contest. Novak didn't get invited last year, but he might get invited this year because he's a well known sharpshooter now. Even though his numbers this year is actually worse than last year.
Bonner could probably only finish 3/5 racks, he takes so long to shoot.
Bonner has been worthy and probably could've Won it he past 2 Years..But for some reason he just can't pick up the invite?...Think Neal and Bonner both deserve a chance..
Think the last SPUR to make it was Roger Mason Jr
Yep, he shot 42.1% from the arc that year (may have been higher or lower at the All-Star Break, though).
Gary Neal has too much lift on his shot for the 3 point shootout. It's made for guys who are flat footed like Stephen Jackson (not saying he should be in it.)
Bonner would probably be the first player in All-Star history to let the rack score.
