So you didn't answer the question then said goodnight because the answer is yes. Classic Christian intellectual dishonesty.

Just playing Devi's advocate really -- but what makes you think they aren't (if that's what you think)?

I think they are a cult. Nothing the New Testament says this. Not even Revelations. They are Christians like the Neo-Nazi's are Christians. They are doing whatever it takes to sue someone. Thats not a religion. Thats a racket.

" Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be blasphemed. Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful to them on the ground that they are members of the church; rather they must serve them all the more, since those who benefit by their service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties. Whoever teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that is in accordance with godliness, is conceited, understanding nothing, and has a morbid craving for controversy and for disputes about words. From these come envy, dissension, slander, base su ions, and wrangling among those who are depraved in mind and bereft of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain."

"Tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to talk back, not to pilfer, but to show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doctrine of God our Savior. … Declare these things; exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one look down on you."

Well, I don't know of anything in the Bible that would specifically exclude them from being Christians.

I mean, inquisitors did some really nasty stuff in their day -- a lot worse than these Westboro clowns -- but I don't see anyone proclaiming they weren't Christians.

I guess I cannot disagree with you seeing they could call themselves christians since other terrible people throughout our history have done so. I guess my problem is with people's idea of what a christian is. I guess I need to disassociate "christian" with "follower of christ". Although Everyday, everyone will sin-asking for forgiveness and striving to live in Jesus' teaching would be more of what I thought a "christian" is. Although there is some Catholic teaching that if someone does something with the idea that they whole-heartliy believe it is what God wanted them to do, then they are not sinning.

Oh, I don't think sin justification is restricted to Catholicism -- and I'm also trying to nail down what the Westboro s do that would be considered sin in these demonstrations. I mean they, just like the inquisitors before them, believe they are doing God's work here in a very Christian manner.

You can also add the Crusaders to the list of Christians who did stuff far worse than anything the Westboro Baptists have ever done.

For a follower of jesus' teaching, they are raising their children to breed hate. THey are preeching hate. Jesus says that anyone who puts money (among many other things) before god will go to . Also anyone who molests god's word will go to . Pretty much anytime you look at a chicks ass, jerk off thinking of anyone other than your wife, or get pissed at someone-you are sinning.

From what I read, Sinning is ok because everyone sins. The problem is living in sin. Not acknowledging you are sinning and wanting to sin less. THis is all my interpretations. I never grew up religious, I just read the bible and went to church on and off. ANything more would need someone more intelligent ot the subject.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)

And with that, I say goodnight

Well, I certainly accept them as your interpretations.

Mine is that all the people discussed are Christians. They just really suck at it.

Do they really think that people now are so much more Godless than in times past? Is allowing gay marriage really that much more abominable than people owning other people?

We are the most "God fearing" country in the world from a Christian perspective, but somehow our kids aren't as safe as most developed non-Christian countries. Why is that? Does God have higher expectations of us?

Owning slaves is endorsed by the New Testament, Gay Marriage is teh devil, so yeah, gay marriage is much more abominable than owning slaves.

I don't know what you mean by the NT endorses slaves. Jesus? his Apostles before or after Jesus' death? Specifically Paul?
in referring to 1 Timothy. I think that when Paul condemns people having sexual relations and slave masters in the same paragraph, it's more about all sins being the same in the eyes of god. In none of Jesus' teachings does he come even close to what you are saying.

I just read up on this Westboro Baptist church and they are ing crazy. You know there's something wrong if Fox News and the KKK have a problem with you.
You must be new to any news. These anti-Christ worshipers have had a reputation for some years now.

It does not approve of it, but it was legal in the lands, and therefore addressed. Punishment suggested in the Bible likely was a preferred punishment over some practice more commonly used.

I would be curious of what passages in specific you are referring to.
