It does not approve of it, but it was legal in the lands, and therefore addressed. Punishment suggested in the Bible likely was a preferred punishment over some practice more commonly used.

I would be curious of what passages in specific you are referring to.
Too bad God didn't give us a list of actions he disapproved of. It would've been a perfect place to put a command like, "Don't own slaves. Cut that out, it's not cool guys."

How does he know Lanza was an atheist?

Regardless, the premise of what you just said is still re ed. Look at the religious Demographics of incarcerated Americans. Less than 1% of them are atheists. It's a complete myth that atheists commit more evil because they "don't have a god to answer to."
No, you see, those aren't "true" Christians. Every Christian who commits crimes is an atheist in disguise.

That's re ed of you to say. The New Testament does not tell them to do those stupid things. A shame you don't know that they don't truly follow the New Testament, but it fits your argument to call them Christians. Just because they claim to be, doesn't make them Christian. Look to the New Testament scriptures and tell me where their actions are Christ-like.

Obama said he would end the wars, he must be a "Peace" President!
    lol Not
    Are you a Christian?

And at Christians yet again trying to excuse The Old Testament's position on slavery.
God can properly tell people to not eat s fish, but when it comes to owning slaves, he somehow can't get his point across

You must be new to any news. These anti-Christ worshipers have had a reputation for some years now.
I usually don't pay attention to extremely religious people because usually Christians are crazy in general. It's funny to see anonymous and KKK against WBC.

Obviously I didn't read all the gibberish in this thread, but the shooter was home schooled, so unless they came by his home and picked God up in a van, there's no reason to invoke school prayer in this shooting.

And what has your eight legged spaghetti man said on the topic?
Gus (I like to call him, his noodly appendage be praised) looks at slavery as something humorous. He's words were "pwned" or whatever that means.

OK, but you had to be almost dead to the world not to know about this hate group.

Those of us who follow Pastafarianism don't claim to know the number of his Noodly Appendages.

The contortions by Fundamentalists to both deny and embrace the old testament would be funny if it weren't so sad. They dismiss the slavery justifications as dated, but embrace the idea of the sin of sexuality like it were life itself.

It's almost as contorted as voting for the party of the NRA and claiming to be Pro-Life. Folks, the assault rifles that the NRA insists are necessary for every American have one use and one use only: to kill people. You can't hunt with them (unless you're making your venison sausage al fresco ), and they're impractical for an in-home intruder.

I guess if you haven't heard preachers, you don't understand what they are saying; can't read between the lines. Huckabee never said this was God's wrath, or he didn't protect the school because there wasn't prayer. What he DID say is that we no longer teach moral absolutism; right and wrong, black and white - and that if you end up on the wrong side of that equation, you have God, ultimately, to answer to. Therefore, more and more people (Adam Lanza in this case), don't fear judgement day - has, as many on the board apparently have not, heard it described to them every day of their lives; be good or else.

He might not be right in his estimation, but THAT is the crux of his argument.
Since you're speaking on behalf of Huckabee, can you answer why anyone should fear judgment day and/or worry about right and wrong if belief in jesus is enough to get you into heaven?

Joel Rosenberg Ties Jon Stewart to CT School Shooting

Religious Right author Joel Rosenberg says that people like Jon Stewart of The Daily Show share in the blame for the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting because they have waged a “cultural war against Jesus and Christmas” and tried to “drive [God] out of our society.” Like American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer, Rosenberg claims that God did not stop the massacre because God is a “gentleman”: “If a nation tells Him to leave, He will leave.”

Another right-wing "Christian" asshole (with a Jewish name) speaking as if he knows The Mind of God, so we better respek Rosenburg and keep sending him more money.

Another asshole "Christian" sounding off as Cons utional/history scholar

On last night's episode of "The Glenn Beck Program," guest host Tim Ballard brought on David Barton to give his "expert" perspective on how the Founding Fathers would have responded to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Barton insisted that the Founders called the Second Amendment "the biblical right of self defense" and crafted it to ensure that citizens could protect themselves again any and all threats, including the government, with equal firepower.

In Barton's view, whatever weapons the government possesses must also be available to the population at large because the citizens might one day need to resist the government, so this principle of "equal power ... has got to control the gun control debate":

    God is incredibly insecure.

You don't mention me in school anymore, and since school is apparently the only place to be taught about Me, I'll let a gunman murder 20 children and six teachers. That'll teach 'em.

I guess the people need to have access to nuclear weapons since the government also does.

I'm pretty sure most schoolteachers were not armed back then.
