The key fallacy of so-called gun control laws is that such laws do not in fact control guns. They simply disarm law-abiding citizens, while people bent on violence find firearms readily available.
When it comes to the rate of gun ownership, that is higher in rural areas than in urban areas, but the murder rate is higher in urban areas. The rate of gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks, but the murder rate is higher among blacks. For the country as a whole, hand gun ownership doubled in the late 20th century, while the murder rate went down.
if you look back through history, you will find that Britain has had a lower murder rate than the United States for more than two centuries-- and, for most of that time, the British had no more stringent gun control laws than the United States. Indeed, neither country had stringent gun control for most of that time.

    "firearms readily available."

    why that?

simply because the NRA/guns-and-ammo industry has for 35 years pumped up their profit margins by gutting firearm/ammo regulations and intimidating politicians.

so now the firearm industry gets to sell another 300M guns and $10Bs in profits.

It's all about corporate profits, not about 2nd amendment or self-defense.

American life and civilization degenerates further as the corporations stuff their pockets and "confiscate" the suckers' money.

so having 285 million guns in circulation.. is a good thing... better yet let's continue to increase the number of guns... no harm in that.

it's amazing how blind some people are

I absolutely agree that more law abiding citizens should buy and carry weapons.

Good job stating an arbitrary "fact" that was a big part of his article.

    pearls before swine.

That article and the "understanding" paper it points to are WAY TOO COMPLEX for the right-wing s to follow. Much simpler for them is to swallow the gun industry corporate sucker line that "(buy our) guns for everyone and everywhere solves everything".

phones are tricky; it is said spelling and dictionaries became regular in English speaking countries about the same time, not too too long ago.

whatever one thinks good spelling or bad confers on the speaker, misspelled words seldom lead to any great misunderstanding -- those not taking SnC to mean Thomas Sowell quickly found Sowell if they checked -- but they do provide a balcony from which to jeer, for those so inclined.

apart from the obvious legal, military and economic necessities of correct spelling, what desirables are served, if any? spelling is artificial and arbitrary, good or bad proficiency scarcely correlates with anything beyond the mere in/ability, FWIW, to spell.

    I am so inclined.

    Sue me.

And it's tough to see it as a phone issue when you're talking about printed material where the word is clearly featured in red on the top of the page..

England banned guns 1920 following WW1. Saying that we had a higher murder rate in 1880 doesn't posit much. I can explain why if you need be. Think of movies involving the sons of Sheen.

The rest of the statistics have been discussed ad nauseum in the other threads and your spamming every NRA type on the board is indicative of how scared the current rhetoric has you.

    Sure if you'd like.
As far as spamming, I don't see it that way. Since assault weapons ban was brought back into question ad nauseum, I'd figured the same counter points could be brought up too.

I am absolutely scared that the elites will, again, not waste a crisis and try and take more of my freedom away-for the sake of saving people from themselves.

the "Memoirs of US Grant" is undeniably great, despite the more than occasional misspelling of names and place names.

When criminals started carrying automatic rifles, what did the police do? They started carrying them too.

editions of US Grant's memoirs including the editors' chatisement of US Grant, his glossators and one another -- are already extant, I believe.

    from the wiki:
Gleason disliked rehearsing. With a photographic memory[53] he read the script once, watched a rehearsal with his co-stars and stand-in, and shot the show later that day. When he made mistakes, he often blamed the cue cards.[54]
