Sell now. You can buy two later.
So I've been watching an AR-15 I own being sold on gunbroker.com for more than double what I paid for mine, and I've done numerous upgrades to mine on top of that. It looks like I can turn a 700 dollar gun for around 1,800.
Should I sell now and buy another once the panic dies down? How long will the panic last? Should I hold onto it? My feelings are that I can make a profit now and buy again later, and get a much better gun. Part of me is nervous though and wants to hold on to what I've got. I'm torn.
Sell now. You can buy two later.
hi there!
This is my first call out in thread le.
Yay!
You can buy a Sako Finnlight with a mid to high end scope for 2K. Just the rifle for 1400. No way a stamped out receiver on that platform is worth 1800.00. It's a bubble and will burst very soon.
How long do you think before the prices drop again? I'm waiting on a bolt carrier group to complete another build, and if I put this gun up for sale I will be down a gun due to no BCG. With the profit I could easily buy another BCG but I'm not willing to spend 300 at this point for a BCG.
Do it, especial if you have more than one.
I think you can get more than 1800. There's a several month backlog on even the simplest parts. People are buying everything they can get their hands on. I'd post it for 2500.00 and let it ride.
I mean, someone puts up an order of 1K bolt carrier groups, what are you going to do? He's first. Not many shops can swing that kind of a purchase and still handle the single orders so though they may take your order, they will likely cancel shortly afterward and raise the price to 500.
The may drop again in a couple of months, but right now you have a 2.5 - 3x normal price window to move. Someone will take it, the extra money, they've been told no by too many other dealers backlogged.
Don't think it will fetch that much, it's just a s&w m&p 15 sport with low pro gas block installed, 12" free float rail, VFG, and a bushnell red dot. It was first AR, and I don't use it much anymore. But having to put a BCG in it and leaving another one without a BCG does not sit well with me.
Check out subguns.com, check out all the complaints about not being able to get guns or parts, about gun shops raising prices suddenly and shutting down orders due to backlogs. You're on the upswing of the bubble, you have nothing to lose by asking premium. Right now you're not sure if you even want to sell. It's not often a person has opportunity to be in the drivers seat on these things, and the next mass shooting might be awhile.
A friend bought a Colt M16 for 3K several years back. It's worth 22K now. Better than gold prices.
DMC, you got an extra BCG sitting around you want to sell me? Or send it to me for free and we can work out a deal on my final sale price of said gun?![]()
Not sure I would even part with one if I had it tbh. Put it up minus the BCG. Someone will take it off your hands.
im also on the receiving end of trying to find a BCG without getting raped, so I'm getting raped and giving rape at the same time.
Was thinking about that. There are a bunch of fools sitting on 20+ bcg's right now
No kidding. There's a guy sitting on 5 thousand registered sears, worth oh... 20K each. He has a safe full of them that he's just let sit there, earning interest. For those that don't know, the sear is just a small piece of metal easily manufactured but it has the SN stamped on it on registered subguns. The sear is what's actually registered and can have the gun built around it, and becomes a brand new fully transferrable subgun worth about 22 - 25K.
Would you recommend selling the upper (w/no bcg) and the complete lower separately? Or sell the entire gun?
It depends on who's looking, but I prefer to not be stuck with a lower demand part so all or nothing.
Thanks for the advice. Think ill wait and see if the BCG I ordered arrives in 2 weeks. If not, I think I'll sell it without the BCG. How long you think the panic buying will last so I can maximize profit and wait till the end.
I imagine right after the inauguration address would be a great time to sell.
Just before actually, the anticipation will be great but it will fizzle after his speech focuses on the fiscal cliff and healthcare.
your guns ain't the stocks you own imho, guns give you the sense of safety which's worth far more than a few thousand dollars. if you feel you got some extra guns that you ain't gonna need then it might be a good choice to sell them while their value is high but you better keep at least one or two guns at home to protect yourself in case a burglar should break into your house
Thanks for the concern my ninja, but I've got more on hand. And will be using this to upgrade anyways.
Gun flipping will eventually burst like the housing bubble did.
I would dump it right now and take my profit. There is no way Feinsteins bill passes. Six months from now prices will be back to normal and everyone that panicked and paid 2X or 3X retail will feel really dumb.
My advise is to tackle the root cause of your problem. Sell the gun and use the profit on surgery to enlarge your penis.
