LeBron is averaging more FGA at the rim per game (6.5) than Westbrick (6.2) or Durant (5.1), yet averages the same amount of FTA per game (6.6) as Westbrick and far less FTA than Durant (8.9)...

In fact, D-Wade also gets to the rim more often than Durant (5.5 FGA at the rim per game), yet averages about 3 less FTA per game than Durant... so-called "flopper" Blake Griffin gets to the rim more often than Durant (5.3 FGA at the rim per game), yet averages about 4 less FTA per game than Durant...

Basically, your argument is bad and you should feel bad...
The FGA at rim is part of my rationale and its a valid one. As I stated before, I think Lebron is much more selective in his drives and he passes much better and more often than KD. Lebrons court vision and passing are really second to none. Lebron is also so much stronger than KD that i believe some fouls on him go uncalled. He can appear unimpeded by fouls sometimes. KD also gets more foul calls coming out of his triple threat than anyone in the league. His length is inspector gadget like. He's tough NOT to get in the way of. You cannot impede the forward motion of an offensive player. I think many defenders get caught in KDs length, if you will. I can see where it's frustrating for opposing fans to see but his length does make it difficult for defenders not to impede him a lot.

btw, props to seventyniner for showing statistically how the league nudges things towards a more desirable outcome.

So basically thunder 's argument now is "It's not the refs' fault that Kevin Durant has so much length!"

If the thunder ends winning a championship, it has got to be the most tainted and the least impressive since Lakers 2002.

it seems my name can't get out the minds of the regular liberal stains of spurstalk.

I really don't give a about the favorable officiating. I admitted already that we get preferential treatment before. Why? I don't know. As a fan, I welcome it, anything that helps really.

least you accept it, thunder doesn't, he still thinks it's some statistical anomaly. I'm actually a fan of Durant since he was a Longhorn but i hate the preferential treatment of OKC. you ask why it happens, imo, it's because the team has two young superstars, but also because I believe Stern et al want that market to flourish after pulling it from Seattle. that was a PR nightmare for them and I imagine they want this new market to flourish, especially with such a well built team. If you guys win a championship then that will go a long way to establishing that market for the future. Just my theory, but at this point the numbers don't lie, OKC gets its share of preferential treatment.

You might be a homer and have some bad posts, but at least you aren't drinking the kool-aid. Thunderfan is on a crusade to prove how legit his team is.

One more TBH please. I can't tell if you're being honest or not. People continually whining about the refs and refuse to give credit where credit is due. Again - RW and KD are in the top tier in the league in FG attempts at the rim. What's that tell you guys? They're getting to the rim. When you've got 2 guys like that getting a good number of attempts at the rim, they're getting fouled, period. What's the alternative? You gonna let them dunk on you all game?
Quit spewing unsubstantiated tripe like it's some kind of fact, shots at the rim has very little to do with number of FTA, at all. look at the league leaders in that category. You see Nikola Pekovic and Greg Monroe shooting a lot of FTs?

On the other hand, the number of shots taken at certain locations of the floor does have some correlation (I did that analysis 5 or 6 years ago), and yet ....

Durant is shooting 78% of FGs on jumpshots, 14% from close range, and 8% on dunks (dunks rarely got fouls). http://www.82games.com/1213/12OKC8.HTM

    RW is shooting 69%/21%/1%. http://www.82games.com/1213/12OKC2.HTM

    For comparison's sake:

    Tony Parker is going 68/22/0

    Tim Duncan is going 65/27/7

    Blake Griffin: 61/28/11

    LeBron: 66/27/6

    Wade: 66/25/8

Carmelo: 75/24/2, numbers that are similar (but more close range shots) than Durant, and yet Melo is shooting 0.36 FTA/FGA, while Durant is shooting, get this, 0.485 FTA/FGA. To top it off, Melo's got more shots at the rim than Westbrook.

BTW, OKC is ranked 17 out of 30 teams in the league in shots at the rim (24.7 atg vs. the league average of 25.4 atg). And yet, they are ranked 2nd in the league in FTA (ironically, right behind the Lakers).

To be fair to the Lakers, most of those will be Howard. He gets hacked on just about every attempt at the rim because it's better to give up free throws than a dunk, especially to Howard.

Lakers stats on free throws are massively skewed by Howard and can't be used IMO. Thunder is basically #1 at FT attempts from rim shots.
