He apparently was let go in New York because he is stubborn and Carmelo didn't work with his system.
not because he is a bad coach. His system works when the players want to make it work IMHO.
He was fired because the Knicks underachieved as , as seen this season under a new coach that preaches defense. You can't tell me with a straight face that you just found out D'Antoni and defense never met.

He had two losing seasons in New York, and the third was 42-40 before getting swept by Boston. Not sure how that can be considered successful.

His 'system' never won anything *because* defense is an afterthought... truth be told, his 'system' has always been riding Nash in the prime of his career.

Theres just too much Kobe going on for that team. He's just the biggest reason why they suck. And Nash gets part of the blame too. He's way too passive. And I don't understand why thw Lakers do not run this play.

Post up your big man and if the double team comes, have them pass the ball out of the double to either Nash, Kobe or Meeks beyond the arc. They are too good of a team to not realize this.
sounds easy but, is not, not with this team

yeah but at the time the team was still figuring out hot to mesh no? the whole carmelo and amare saga... not that im defending him but you are looking only at the 2 now 3 losing seasons... when he was at phoenix his was getting sucked on a daily basis. when he left the suns, everyone was looking to hire him.
he was very successful with the sons, but maybe your right maybe he just rode nash during his prime,

Seriously? In terms of talent, this Lakers team is easily a top 5 in the league. Kobe, Dwight, Nash and Gasol are all still top tier players, if pop was coaching this team they would be at least level with Memphis. Sadly, the coaching problem isn't all D'antoni, Kobe has to take significant blame. If you won't respect Phil Jackson (with 9 rings when his book was written) then you really ate uncoachable.
Disagree they're still top tier players. They also have no depth and athleticism, two crucial components any contending team needs to have in the modern NBA.

Funny how quickly the Kobe guarding the opposing PG experiment ended when they actually ran his ass through some screens.

His claim to glory was playing Don Nelson ball on a big man league, but if you look closely he started with that when Nash joined the ballclub in 2004-2005. The whole 'only Nash can run my system' is suspect as . And he was saying that even this season when he joined and Nash was still out.

You're pretty in' stupid (more than I previously thought, which would put you on the level of a Down Syndrome sufferer) if you don't see how the NBA has become faster and more perimeter oriented, with a heavy reliance on spacing and penetration.

They dont need to run this the whole game coz Dwight ain't exactly Hakeem when passing out of the double team but ive seen them do this with great success from time to time, normally in the 4th when they're making a moral victory run. Its usually Nash draining this 3 and it works everytime. They'll have the same set but they'll completely forget this was actually an option and settles for a MWP or Bryant jumper. Mind boggling.

you would think Lakerfan would have learned this after watching their last two playoffs runs tbh.

Nash nearly carried a horrible Suns team to the playoffs last year. Gasol is still a quality player. Neither are a first option to carry a team to a championship, but they are both still great players who would be better in literally any other team.

What you need to accept is that the Lakers are incredibly talented, and that's the best part of it. This is a team loaded with talent and still losing, which is the funniest part. To really enjoy this Laker season, you have to accept how talented they are, and laugh at how bad theyve been.

Agree to disagree. Nash, for all his offensive brilliance, is a huge, huge liability on defense, not to mention, prone to injury and exhaustion. Gasol seems to have left his A game in 2010. Kobe is declining, can't play defense, and is inconsistent. Howard needs the perfect complement of players (shooters) to excel. Then after those players, there's a huge dropoff in talent on the Lakers' roster.

I'm not hating for the sake of hating. I just don't see championship talent there. At the very least, under the right system and coach, maybe they're a darkhorse to get into the WCF, but as it stands, the Lakers are a collection of names past their primes without a bench.

Only a in' idiot (like you) would think Dwight Howard (an overrated monkey with no post game), a 60 year old Steve Nash, a declining Gasol, and an aging Kobe, surrounded by zero depth, youth, and athleticism would be the best team on paper. I told every single one of you morons sucking Mitch's how the Lakers didn't improve over the off-season, but you had too much of Mitch's semen in your eyes to see the truth.

nothing can be said ........ I said from jump, if that bench is not taken care of, it doesn't matter who your starting lineup is. And sure enough, the has hit the fan. Funny how Bryant is in' about front office moves when he's launching 32 shots a game just to make in' ten .... how crazy is that ?????

There is no doubt they have championship talent. It's just not working at the moment for various reasons.
